Daily Horoscope – How It's Done

Most newspapers have columns with daily horoscopes, describing what to expect of the day in a couple of sentences. Nowadays, the Internet has countless sites doing the same. So, how is this done and can you do it yourself?

First of all, few of the newspaper horoscopes are done with any astrological method. Journalists are assigned to make something up, which is the traditional job for novice reporters. As for Internet versions, I doubt that they are made in a significantly different fashion.

That's because real daily horoscopes, using astrology correctly, is quite complicated and time-consuming. Newspapers couldn't be bothered.

Also, there's no room in any newspaper for doing the job properly. Instead, these daily horoscopes are based solely on what Zodiac sign the sun is in – the sun sign. Thereby, they limit it to twelve different texts. As if there are only twelve people in the whole world.

The Real Thing

A proper daily horoscope for a person is quite a different thing. It takes into account the whole birth chart of that person, with all its Zodiac signs, astrological Houses, planets, and aspects (special angles) between them. And it compares this to the positions of all the planets at the day in question.

That makes an intricate whole, which is far from easy to interpret. The planetary positions of the day in question are called transits. When these form aspects to planets and other points in the birth chart horoscope, this indicates events to happen on that day.

Here's an example of a transit horoscope – for Barack Obama on the day of the Presidential election, November 6th, 2012:

The transit planets are marked outside the outer circle, and the positions of the planets at his birth are marked on the inner side of the Zodiac circle. The lines inside the innermost circle mark aspects between transit planets and those of his birth chart (radix). Conjunction aspects (0°) are not marked, but they are still easy to spot.

As you can see, there's a lot of work involved in both charting a proper daily horoscope and interpreting it – even nowadays, when computer programs do the math and draw up the horoscope chart.

What It Reveals

In the reading of the daily horoscope, you have to remember that some transit planets move much faster through the Zodiac than others do. The moon (counted as a planet in this context) is by far the fastest, moving something like 13° a day, whereas Pluto is the slowest, taking almost 250 years to make a complete orbit.

Therefore, the influence of a Pluto transit aspect is not just for that day, but for a year or even longer. Of particular interest is the day when that aspect is exact, which means something significant may happen on that day and have a long-lasting effect. The same is true for Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn. Less so for Jupiter.

The remaining planets – Mars, Venus, and Mercury – tend to express themselves in events on the very day their transit aspects to your birth chart are exact. The moon, too, but it tends to be expressed by moods instead of events. Also the sun is significant in a daily horoscope transit, indicating what “theme” will dominate the day.

If Making It Simpler

Now, if we would still do like the newspapers and simplify the task significantly, we have to watch out for some traps.

It's not wrong to choose the Zodiac sign positions of the sun in your birth chart, since that's the mightiest of the points of the horoscope. The radix sun mainly shows what you are when not doing things that involve other planets. That's your nature when you rest, for example, but also what seems to dominate your life, generally speaking.

But a Zodiac sign covers 30° of the total 360° Zodiac circle of the horoscope. For any accuracy, you need to check where in the sign your radix sun is, to know if the transit planet forms an aspect with it or not.

For example, if your sun is in the beginning of a Zodiac sign and the transit planet at the end of it, that's not a conjunction. Not at all. Transit influences demand close aspects, really no more than 1° or 2° from being exact. Anything over 5° is completely insignificant – it just means that the aspect has happened earlier or is yet to come.

If this is not checked, the daily horoscope is a lottery instead of astrology.

If you do check it and you find a proper aspect between a transit planet and your sun, it can indeed be interpreted astrologically. But then you have to be aware that it involves only one ingredient of your birth chart horoscope, therefore only one circumstance in your life.

Since it's the sun it's sure to be significant – but not complete. Lots of other things may happen than what the transit to your sun reveals. For a complete picture, you need to make a daily horoscope like the Obama example above.

2012 World Horoscope

Drastic changes to home and family structures, tougher tones in politics, continued focus on new modes of communication, increased impatience in all kinds of partnerships, growing unemployment, but also a blooming entertainment industry and new directions for art - those are some of the events to expect in 2012, according to the world horoscope.

The World Horoscope Chart

Although we have no date for the birth of the world, it's easy to make an astrological forecast based on the year to come. That's done by making a horoscope chart for the start of the year, January 1, at Midnight GMT.

The choice of GMT, Greenwich Mean Time, is obvious: it's the starting point for the world clock system on which all countries agree. Well, there are some local exceptions, but they are insignificant compared to the whole.

So, this is what the horoscope looks like for January 1, 2012, Midnight GMT, with Greenwich, England, as the location:

Now, this type of annual horoscope is consistent from year to year in some ways, and differs in others. The Ascendant (AC), therefore also Medium Coeli (MC) and the astrological Houses, remain in just about the same position from year to year. So does the sun, of course, since it's the heavenly body on which we base the year.

But the other planets move from year to year. That's why they should be observed the most closely, when reading the 2012 world horoscope. Also the aspects, certain angles they form to one another and to the above mentioned persistent points of the horoscope. That, too, changes from year to year.

The Greenwich base for the annual world horoscope will remain as long as we keep the present time zone system. Since the horoscope is based on what the global society has agreed upon, it primarily shows what happens to this our society. Well, that's what we're the most curious about, anyway.

The Starting Point of the Year

We also have to remember that this 2012 world horoscope shows the starting point of the year. This gives a good astrological image of what we are to expect of the year, but a complete reading includes observing how the planets move through the year.

This continued movement indicates what happens to tendencies and circumstances shown by the January 1 horoscope chart. And when the planets form new aspects or pass from one House or Zodiac sign to another, this signifies changes of what was expected from their January 1 positions.

It's a dynamic system. So is society, indeed.

Constant Characteristics of the World Community

Because some things remain the same from year to year in the annual world horoscope based on Greenwich, there are many things about the human world community that remain the same. Quite important things.

Since the Ascendant always reappears at 7° Libra (it changes minutely because of Leap Years), the whole House system is also constant in the World horoscope, as is the Medium Coeli position at 9° Cancer and the 10th House.

The Ascendant shows that our world community likes to present itself as just and balanced, keeping order in the world. It's not necessarily true, but that's the image we want to make of our civilization. The end of the 1st House moving into Scorpio indicates that unrest and drastic change are still to be expected. The order rarely lasts and justice has its exceptions.

Medium Coeli, MC, shows how we see ourselves really, or in this case our society. That's in Cancer, so we strongly feel that society is built on our need to protect one another. A safety net, an institution by which the world population is more secure that it otherwise would be.

As for the twelve Houses, they are actually in the opposite position of their initial habitat in the Zodiac. For example, the 1st House is in Libra although the Zodiac sign Aries from which it got its characteristics is right opposite it, in the 7th House. That goes for all the Houses.

This means that there is a kind of malfunction in every aspect of society, an anomaly that keeps causing trouble and keeps interrupting some basic needs and functions from working as intended. Much of the social unrest in the world is explained by the opposition between the Houses and their original Zodiac signs.

Therefore:
The 1st House shows that individuality is somewhat suppressed for the sake of what's called the benefit of all, and the 7th House shows that we have trouble forming lasting partnerships, since society seems still to be arranged for individualism.

The 2nd House tells that the economy is constantly threatening to collapse, although that rarely happens. We lack control of it, but the 8th House shows that we continue to convince ourselves that we can control things that are really out of our control.

The 3rd House shows that communication techniques and habits aim so far that they tend not to be adequate for everyday contacts in our immediate neighborhoods. We are strangers to the ones around us, but get well acquainted with people very far away. The 9th House shows that still, we don't move very far, although we easily could. The changes to society are often minor and superficial, or plain illusions.

The 4th House shows that the home and family structure is embraced by great ambition and importance, but that tends to threaten security and peacefulness in the home environment. This is where the sun is, so it increases this characteristic of present society. We have tremendous ambitions with our homes and families, which is precisely why our homes don't function as the havens they once were.

The 10th House shows that our social ambition, society's march towards improvement as a whole, aims at security and peacefulness, as if the world society had become the new family structure. I doesn't really work, of course, when people don't feel security and peace in their homes. Medium Coeli in this House is in an opposition aspect (180°) to the sun, increasing the effect and strength of this conflict.

Although we struggle to make society more and more safe, it mainly unsettles our homes and makes family members impatient. Homes break up instead of getting more solid. This is the major problem in our world society. Security should start at home, and land there, but when society as a whole tries to substitute it, homes suffer.

The 5th House indicates that the most encouraged spare time activity in society is that of a continued learning process. We study and learn, but find little time to digest it all. We're expected to spend the time we have on our own to discover what society as a whole is all about and how this can be fulfilled. That's what we want to do, but it proves difficult to accomplish outside our own private zones.

At the opposite, the 11th House shows that individualism is the most successful attitude on the big social scene. That's why dictators keep appearing, although society as a whole embraces democracy. People who exploit society for their own benefit and to make themselves celebrities or leaders have the best chance of succeeding. Altruism meets with many more obstacles.

The 6th House shows that we are eager to work and contribute, but society gives less opportunity to do so. Unemployment is a plague that will not be solved, but probably increase – even so that parts of the population will never have a regular job. Those who do, find that it changes often, whether they like it or not, and they are often unsure about what to expect and what to do at their workplace. It's confusing.

The 12th House repeats this situation by showing that our society lacks room for all of the work force wanting to do their bit. It is difficult to get things done, although so many are ready to dig in.

The above conflicts or anomalies in our society will remain as long as we stick to the present Greenwich based clock. It's an underlying circumstance, so it can be improved and diminished, but never completely solved. And the conflicts quickly return if not constantly countered.

2012 Specifics

Considering the above, we move on to see what's specific for the year 2012. That's done simply by observing the positions of the planets, and the aspects they form.

Sticking to the order of the Houses, we see this:

Upholding Balance by Power

Saturn is in the 1st House of the 2012 world horoscope, approaching the end of Libra. This means that the public social debate is very much occupied with principles of justice and how they should be protected and enforced. Changes to our ethics and morals threaten to rock present foundations, whether they are welcome or not. There is much talk about enforcing the old values and upholding balance by power.

Saturn is rather slow, so it was in the same House in the 2011 world horoscope, although closer to the start of the House and in the middle of Libra. So, the debate about law and moral principles continues from that year, but in 2012 it threatens to create social unrest, maybe also a crisis.

We had a slightly similar situation in 1982 and 1983, when the cold war was still very present. In that period, Saturn was passing through the same part of the world horoscope.

The World Economy Constantly Shivering

As for the world economy, 2012 will be rather uneventful. Nothing of serious significance happens, but Scorpio in that House guarantees that we will still have great fears about the world finances and what they might cause. There's continued unrest in the economy, but no major crash. No prosperous solution either.

Everybody might not agree on it, but 2011 was a much better year for the world economy than 2012 will be. Both Venus and the moon were in the 2nd House of the 2011 world horoscope, so fortunes grew and many parts of the economy were blooming. It was still in Scorpio, so the threat was there, but actually 2011 was a prosperous year for the world economy.

Actually, the greatest threats to the world economy were between 1986 and 1998, when Pluto passed through the 2nd House. This period was also the one with the most drastic changes to the world economy. It's unlikely that the near future has anything more dramatic in store for us, regarding the world economy.

The Era of Communication

In the House of communication, 2012 has good things in store. Both Mercury and the North Node are in the 3rd House. This shows that new methods, techniques and habits regarding communication are introduced and growing. In society as a whole, this seems to be a major development, something signifying the year and its main events.

This goes for every kind of communication – travel, the Internet, language, and so on. Because of Sagittarius in this House, the scope is both nearby and distant communication – sort of making them alter: distant things approach, and nearby matters take off into the distance.

The development of communication has been a major ingredient in the world since the 14th century, when Pluto and Neptune had a conjunction in Gemini, the Zodiac sign of communication. Their next conjunction was in the same sign, at the end of the 19th century. It will continue to happen approximately every 500 years, and for several thousand years ahead it will be in Gemini.

That means the most revolutionary changes in society – since the 14th century – have all been about communication. That's where society progresses the most. At the first conjunction, book printing with types was introduced, at the second the radio was invented. Both were extreme advances in communication. More will come – some small part of it in 2012.

Revolution at Home

In 2012, Pluto enters into the 4th House, that of home and family, which is already very important in the world horoscope of any year. Pluto brings drastic change, something like a metamorphosis or revolution. It takes time and lasts long, but 2012 will see the start of such a thing, regarding home and family.

In Capricorn, this is likely to be a big change in the structure of home and family, all through the world society. Such things are, of course, slow to change completely, because age old habits and traditions are involved. But during 2012 we will see the seed, the start of a new way of forming families and settling in homes. Something more ambitious, but probably neither more secure nor more caring.

In future history books, whatever this change is it will be described as the most important thing happening in 2012 – although we might not see it clearly during this year.

Great changes begin with small events, in the periphery. The Pluto changes often take many years to complete – but they will be possible to detect in 2012, if we just widen our perspective and listen for the small signals. We should not stare at the small events per se, but consider their longtime consequences.

Already during 2013, Pluto passes over the sun in the 4th House. That surely means the ball starts rolling, the metamorphosis of home and family is well on the way. It continues to unfold during all of Pluto's movement through this House, which goes on until 2029.

In the 2012 world horoscope, Pluto is almost exactly at the cusp of the 4th House (at 7°19.5', whereas the House cusp is at 7°06'). This shows that the beginning change of home and family structures is indeed something very significant to this year. It will make the news in many obvious and not so obvious ways.

Pluto is in a square aspect to the Ascendant, which means that the coming change of home and family is in conflict with how we like to regard our society, its balance and justice. This implies that the change causes unbalance and is better for some than for others.

Also the sun, which recurs at the same position for every annual world horoscope, has a square to the Ascendant. So, this tendency is typical for modern society – even in past and future years. Home and family develop into something in conflict with how we as a society like to see ourselves.

Surely, because of Capricorn, the change will make families bigger, not smaller, and somehow more important in society, demanding more resources and getting them, too.

Entertainment Blooming and Art in Transformation

Also the 5th House contains planets marking it as an eventful environment in 2012. Venus appears rather early in the House and Neptune later – both in Aquarius.

The House deals with what people in society do for their own amusement. That's show business, cultural activities, the arts, but also for example sports. Things we don't have to accomplish or consume for our survival, but do for our own delight. That which makes life pleasant.

And pleasure is the key word for Venus, the planet appearing first in the House. It blooms in this House, showing that 2012 will be full of pleasures and delights within the field of entertainment – especially the kind that makes us reflect and become wiser. Our culture advances, explores, innovates, more than most years.

Aquarius is a serious sign, so everything is not exactly joyous in the conventional sense, but definitely interesting and thought provoking. The development of entertainment and art is towards the profound, into depths we have not yet been familiar with.

This in confirmed by Neptune, which has traveled through this House for several years. It entered in 2002, so that's when artists in every genre started to explore what were until then mysteries, seeking new ways of expression and subject-matters of increased profundity. Of course, that's what artists are always doing, but rarely to this extent.

Actually, this dreamlike quality emerging in the entertainment world is quite unique in the history of modern society, since this is the first time Neptune enters this House of the world horoscope.

It was not until 1884 Greenwich Mean Time was adopted world-wide. Before that year a world horoscope like this one was not possible to chart. Neptune takes about 165 years to pass through the whole Zodiac.

During 2012, Neptune will move into Pisces, although remaining in the same House until 2016. This means that the visions and imagination of artists will move from finding to searching, from the known to the unknown. They feel lost and long for new moods of expression. Entertainment will still have the Aquarius characteristics, since show business evolves slower that the artists that contribute to it. But a sense of bewilderment and uncertainty will start to be felt.

Venus has a sextile aspect to the North Node in the 3rd House, showing that much of the creativity in the entertainment world has to do with new solutions for communication. Things like the Internet will have an increased role to play, which comes as no surprise. During this year, other innovations of communication might be initiated by the entertainment industry for its own purposes, but still finding wider use.

Neptune has a trine aspect to Saturn in the 1st House. That means the innovative minds of artists go in harmony with ethical principles we cherish in society. It also means that principles regarding freedom of the arts and of artistic expression stimulate them very much. Artists dare to extend their quests to new areas, feeling the support of society as a whole.

The Hardship of Labor

The 6th House concerns labor, and it is troubled in the world horoscope – not only in 2012. The House is in Pisces, the sign of confusion, sacrifice, and shortcomings. This means that ever since the late 19th century, when this world horoscope was born through the world-wide establishment of Greenwich Mean Time, labor and its circumstances have been troubled, its complications far from their solutions. It's simply and sadly an ingredient in modern society.

We know that industrialization gnawed on the need for workers, gradually replacing them with machines. The computer has done the same with white-collar workers. This process will remain, so unfortunately we can expect to see a continued high percentage of unemployed – for some people all through their lives.

Astrologically speaking, this will not change until new coordinates are established for world time. But changes still take place, some for the better and some for the worse. Uranus close to the end of the 6th House reveals such a change.

Since 2006, Uranus has passed through the Pisces part of the House, but in 2012 it's entered the last part of the House, which is in Aries. Uranus is the planet of insight and invention, and Aries the sign of challenge and drastic action. The outcome is easy to compute.

There will be new developments this year in the field of labor. These will be challenging, so that some adapt to the new situation and prosper, whereas others are left behind. Aries is impatient.

The new developments will be defended as necessary or even unavoidable, but it's not at all sure that they must be so ruthless. This is just the sign of the time. Uranus has no aspects to other planets, so the stern way by which it is expressed in the work places of our society has no outer reason, although this will surely be claimed.

The new order for labor introduced by Uranus will be completed rather quickly, already during 2013, when Uranus leaves the 6th House.

Impatient Partnerships

The 7th House governs partnerships of any kind. Usually, what we care the most about are relationships based on love, such as marriage. But also business relations and other partnerships belong to this House.

In our society all kinds of partnerships tend to be based on individualism. Both parties are eager to guard their own interests and integrity. That's really not much of a partnership, so they break up easily. This is a situation we have to live with as long as we stick to Greenwich Mean Time.

Still, in the 2012 world horoscope the moon is at the very cusp of the 7th House, injecting it with strong emotions, especially that of longing. It means we long for lasting relations, but still only if we can keep our individuality. So, we dream of the right one, a partner with whom these opposites can be united.

The moon moves very quickly through the Zodiac – it completes one rotation in just a month. In the world horoscope, though, it doesn't diminish its influence, especially since it's right at the cusp of the House. This position is significant and enhances the influence of the moon.

The longing it awakens is one for a satisfying partnership – or for breaking out of one that isn't, in order to find one that is. So, both marriages and divorces are likely to increase significantly during 2012.

It's hard to say which one will increase the most, but the Aries sign implies the latter – also it suggests that people will prefer relations that are easy to end. The year will have many examples of very intense but short relations – and this is true for any type of relation, on both personal and organizational level, all the way up to how nations cooperate.

The moon is in an opposition aspect to the Ascendant in Libra. This points out the conflict between the way our society looks at relations and the way we actually live them. We pretend that partnerships are essential and should last for life, but actually we focus more on our own individual needs. This is particularly true and evident during 2012.

The moon also has a square aspect to Pluto on the cusp of the 4th House, which indicates a great and lasting change in home and family structures. Our impatient longing when it comes to partnerships is an obstacle, a complication, in our strife to make something more of home and family than it ever was before.

Towards the end of the 7th House, Jupiter appears. It's when the House has changed from Aries to Taurus. This means that when we learn how to create lasting and rewarding relations, we get countless opportunities to do so.

On the other hand, the quantity of possibilities tends again to make us restless, wondering if we picked the right one. Jupiter in the 7th House leads to several partners and infidelity, even in Taurus.

Jupiter is in opposition to Saturn in the 1st House. It shows that we have the tendency to enter several competing partnerships, although we regard this as immoral and know it can't last.

Jupiter also joins Neptune in the 5th House with a sextile. This is a positive aspect, showing that our tendency to form several partnerships fits well with what new directions our pleasures and entertainments take. Certainly, it's about enjoying life. That might not always work out for the best, but still.

Neptune has sort of a key function, with its sextile to Jupiter and its trine to Saturn, described above in the text about the 1st House. Imagination brings us to new solutions for old situations – when it comes to our moral standpoints as well as our relations.

It's in art and in our fantasies that we find a reason for accepting the conflict between individualism and partnership. Our true need is not multiple partners of whatever kind, nor is it to uphold moral principles regardless of emotional needs, but inspiration by which to pursue an excited discovery of our world and what more it has to offer.

Uneventful Sides of Society

The following two Houses represent environments or fields of society, which are rather uneventful during 2012, according to the world horoscope. That's because they lack planets, which are the active forces in the horoscope.

Still, they continue to express the characteristics given to them by the Zodiac signs they occupy.

First in this duo is the 8th House in Taurus, showing that our modern society tends to have a down-to-earth attitude towards things beyond our control. We neither mystify nor just surrender to them. Instead we continuously strive for methods to control fate in all its expressions. Actually, we have an attitude of refusing to accept that there is anything at all forever beyond our control – not even death.

The 9th House in Gemini shows that we tend to take even major changes lightly, but also that most changes we accomplish are not as big as we would like to think – except for the fact that they involve so many people. Small changes to the life situation of every member of society must be regarded as great changes to society as a whole.

Compassion Meets with Obstacles

MC, Medium Coeli (also called Midheaven), is positioned early in the 10th House. That's a recurring position in the annual world horoscopes, as long as they are based on Greenwich Mean Time. Yet, because it's aspected to planets in a way that's unique for the 2012 horoscope, its function differs from other years.

In itself, MC in this House and the sign of Cancer shows that we regard our society as a caring one, supporting its citizens. In reality, that's far from always the case.

Midheaven has a square aspect to the Ascendant, which is the same every year. It simply points out that society's ability to care for its citizens is often obstructed by the ethics it claims to uphold. Such principles might have been born out of a sense of compassion, but the practice of them often lack just that.

The reverse can also be true: Sometimes the social care for the citizens makes it necessary to brush aside fixed principles.

In the 2012 world horoscope, MC also has a square to the moon on the cusp of the 7th House. This shows that our impatience in partnerships is something that we as a society don't really approve of. Therefore we often tend to close our eyes to it.

Still, the strongest MC aspects are the oppositions to both Pluto and the sun in the 4th House. This stresses the insoluble conflict between society's ambition to care for its citizens and the drastic changes commencing in people's homes and family lives. They lead away from security and the traditional caring environment.

Homes seem instead to become institutions of their own, as if being offices more than homes, with co-workers rather than families. It seems as if society is inverting the social setting with the private one, so that people turn away from their families when they need care.

Now, by the above mentioned squares and oppositions, Medium Coeli forms an aspect figure called the big square: four points of the horoscope joined together by squares. In this case it's MC, the moon, Pluto together with the sun because they are so close, and finally the Ascendant. Such a closed geometrical figure of aspects intensifies the importance and strength of them.

The four corners of the big square form what can be called a system of causes and effects, where each point can be both a cause and an effect. For example, The firm ethics shown by the Ascendant causes problems for the MC attitude of a caring society, as described above. At the same time, the caring society frequently causes the firm principles to be bent. It's the same with all the aspects involved in the figure.

So, there's a pattern of complications between the private and the official, between compassion and ambition, which is particularly obvious in society during 2012. It will be manifested in lots of ways, big and small.

The strongest point in the big square is that of Pluto and the sun in conjunction in the 4th House and Capricorn. Its superior strength comes from the fact that it has two heavenly bodies instead of just one, and that they are so important. The sun is the mightiest of all, of course, although discreet and adaptive in its effect, and Pluto is the one creating the most revolutionary events.

This means that the other points tend to serve more than lead. The Pluto and sun conjunction is the major cause, but also shows where the major effects appear.

As explained in the text above about the 4th House, this is then all about the significant change of the home and family situation in our society. In 2012 this change might be little more than implied by events here and there, tendencies more than big news, but the change is on the way and this year is to a great extent when it starts.

Crisis in Labor

The 11th House lacks planets, so it just expresses the characteristics that remain the same from year to year: The strongest ideals and aspirations in society are individualistic. Of course, this individualism contributes to the conflicts described about the big square. But it doesn't really add new elements to them.

The 12th House, though, has got Mars in the middle, in the sign of Virgo. This pretty much repeats and enforces what was said about the 6th House regarding labor. There are many obstacles in the world wide field of labor, creating injustices and a lot of unemployed.

Mars in the 12th House always creates some trouble or crisis, but also the lack of power to deal with it. This lack of power is often the reason for the trouble appearing. In Virgo this clearly refers to the world of work, employment, and getting things done. So, 2012 will have particular labor problems, which society lacks the force and control to solve.

Mars has a square aspect to Mercury in the 3rd House. This indicates that renewed modes of communication will result in diminished numbers of workers needed. We've seen a lot of that since the introduction of the computer, but this year will have its own events that have this effect. People communicate in different ways, and the result is unemployment as well as other forms of labor difficulties.

New Vice President for Obama?

Horoscope for the Presidential Election in 2012
I was mistaken about the result of the 2008 presidential election, when I first examined Obama's horoscope chart earlier that year. So, maybe I should refrain from speculating about the 2012 election? Naah.

I later realized that already when Barack Obama's political career commenced, by winning a seat in the Illinois State Senate in 1996, this was marked by astrological events in his 12th House. That's the House of sacrifice and hardship. Normally, this House indicates failure instead of success, which is what fooled me at first.

Pyrrhic Victory
Well, indeed Barack Obama's presidency has so far been one of hardship and sacrifice. Even before his inauguration, the USA was heading for what could very well be depression, and the financial crisis isn't over yet. Obama had to start his presidency with the nation having a record depth and every economic prognosis pointing towards the basement.

Other presidential candidates can't have envied him much. He had a Pyrrhic victory, risking to cost him more than he won.

At first, people were aware that the financial situation was not his fault, but memories fade quickly. When the crisis was not over in a heartbeat, people started blaming Obama for it. That's still a heavy weight on his shoulders, which will increase as long as USA:s wealth doesn't.

There are other problems Obama struggles with as President, but the economy is the major one. Also, it leads to several of the other problems. His presidency is not a bed of roses. That's the 12th House thing.

2012 even more uncertain
In 2008, it was difficult to see any clear signs of the Barack Obama victory in his horoscope chart. Unfortunately, his chart for the 2012 election is just as unclear – even more so. There's not even any transit event with the planets in his 12th House, by which he won previous elections to political offices.

His transit horoscope for the election day, November 6th, 2012, lacks any astrological ingredients that indicate if he will lose or win. As if the election doesn't matter to him at all.

Drastic Pluto Intervenes
Well, the transit horoscope has one event of astrological significance: a trine aspect (120°) between native and transit Pluto. That's a once in a lifetime thing, which signals a great, drastic, and vastly important change in his life. A change that will have a life-long effect on him and his situation.

Obama's native Pluto is in the Zodiac sign Virgo, at 7°, in the 7th House. That stands for drastic changes in his relations – both those of love and those of other kinds of partnerships. Virgo reveals that those changes are the results of struggle and meticulous scrutiny, but when they come they are still surprising, even shocking at times.

We haven't seen much of this, so far, which is partly because of the Virgo tendency towards the discreet and seemingly minute. Also, partnership things tend to stay private, especially in this Zodiac sign. His partners would know more about it.

Transit Pluto is in Capricorn, the sign of ambition and constructive capacity, which is in the 11th House of Barack Obama's horoscope. This House rules a person's role in society as a whole, his ideals and how he contributes to the world around him. The 11th House is often significant and active in the horoscopes of politicians and all kinds of celebrities.

Capricorn in this House indicates that Obama has always had the ambition of making a mark in society, but he lacks planets there in his native chart. That means he lacks the means of accomplishing fame and significance by himself. Instead, he is very much helped by all kinds of partnership. The House of partnership, the 7th, contains his native Pluto as well as Uranus in conjunction with the ascending lunar node (also called Dragon's Head). That's both significance and power.

So, a transit aspect between the 11th and the 7th House is very likely to deal with his political career. In this case, a drastic change in his position in society also causes an equally drastic change in a partnership of his – not necessarily that with his wife, but one of comparable importance in his life.

The reverse is also possible: a change in his partnership causes a change in his political life. In astrology, it's not always easy to pinpoint what is the cause and what is the effect. Well, that's true for life as well.

This Way or That
The exact nature of this double-sided change is much more difficult to extract from the horoscope. Several scenarios would fit well to what the transit aspect symbolizes.

Astrology and the horoscope are systems of symbols for forces at play in one's life. Maybe dynamics is a better word for it – the different drives by which a human being is composed and through which he acts or is acted upon. Translating these dynamics into concrete and precise events is really just guesswork, sometimes obvious and sometimes not at all.

Barack Obama's Pluto to Pluto transit could be explained by Michelle having enough of sharing her husband with the whole nation and divorcing him. A divorced president is not that likely to be reelected. Or it could result in Obama retiring from the office to save his marriage. Or he could find a new vice president to replace Joe Biden, guaranteeing him a landslide victory – or an embarrassing defeat. And so on.

The Outcome Should Be Positive
But the trine is a benevolent and pleasant aspect. Positive effects are more likely than the opposite. On the other hand, that means positive for Barack Obama and his life. As we have seen from his first term in office, that's not necessarily keeping it.

Still, it would be a weird trine in his 11th House to kick him out of one of the most elevated positions in society a person can have. Either it implies that Obama will win in 2012 – with a landslide or some other kind of obvious success – or he gets an even more elevated position, whatever that can be.

What's certain, astrologically, is that he has this success due to a partnership – an old or a new one. Because native Pluto is involved, I would say it's a new partnership, or at the very least a drastically renewed form of an old partnership.

The most likely explanation is a new vice president, someone coming as a surprise to all.

Well, changing vice president between terms is a rarity in itself. The only case that comes to my mind is that of Spiro Agnew's resignation in 1973, shortly before Richard Nixon did the same. But here it also means finding a partner that really makes a difference.

It also means that if he gets reelected, he moves his political career from the 12th to the 11th House, making it less of a burden and more of a success story.

Since his major problem so far is the bad economy of the USA, it's likely that a new vice president will be extremely helpful in solving the economical problems – already by being a person people trust tremendously in financial affairs.

I'm far from certain about all the above, but that's where I would place my bet (though not spending that much money on it).

Process in Five Steps
Pluto moves very slowly along the Zodiac, so this trine aspect with native Pluto appeared already in the beginning of this year (2011). It was exact the first time on February 22, but its influence may well have started in January. That influence will remain until mid-November 2012, the month of the presidential election.

That means the big change the transit indicates will take almost two years to be completed. Either it's the time it takes to make the change, or there are hesitations and reassessments before the final decision is made and turned into action.

Because of Pluto's retrograde movements (seemingly going backwards in the sky, as seen from Earth) twice during these two years, there's a rhythm to how this change will happen:

In February 2011 the transit aspect appeared for the first time, as Pluto progressed through the Zodiac (the trine was exact on February 22, 2011). That would be when the idea or possibility of the change emerged.

In May 2011 transit Pluto formed the trine again, through a retrograde movement (exact on May 26). At this time – not necessarily on the day, since Pluto is slow and its influence is a lasting one – the planned or approaching change seemed to be canceled, or met obstructions that postponed it. It may almost have been deserted or regarded as obsolete.

In December 2011 transit Pluto makes a third trine with native Pluto (exact on December 22), this time moving forward through the Zodiac. Here, the change is again on the table, seriously considered or even expected.

Usually this third encounter is the decisive event for transit aspects. It means that the change happens at about this time, and with Pluto the change is both drastic and lasting.

But in this case, the transit aspect occurs two more times. This is very rare. It's because native Pluto happens to be very near the Zodiac position around which transit Pluto makes its retrograde movements. Of course, this enhances the complexity of the change in question, and the many considerations involved. Not to mention a lot of hesitation. Probably there are also several difficult obstacles.

In September 2012 transit Pluto makes a second retrograde movement into the trine with native Pluto (exact on September 8). This indicates that the change seems to be canceled or interrupted at the very last minute. Something happens that threatens to make it all undone, as if there will be no change at all to the previous situation.

But that's not for long.

Already a couple of weeks later transit Pluto makes its final trine with Obama's native Pluto (exact on September 27) in an accelerating movement soon taking Pluto far away from the aspect. In this phase the change takes place, irrevocably, and its effect will remain.

Vice President Hoopla
If the five phases of the Pluto transit trine is to be understood as a change of vice president, the opportunity first appeared in the beginning of 2011. Either Joe Biden suggested that he would not want to remain on a second term of office, or Obama implied that it was not the preferred solution. It may also have happened by a very appealing alternate candidate popping up.

During the spring, the possibility and its plausible consequences must have been discussed just as intensely as secretly among those involved. The fear of backfiring by the change getting the reception of a scandal instead of a sensation, may have made the ones involved want to abandon the idea. The following summer it was all but dead.

But during the fall, especially towards the end of the year, the idea is again getting strong support. Something happens, probably in December, making the change much more doable and likely. Maybe Joe Biden gets discredited, or wants off for some other reason. Or an alternative candidate for some reason appears so much more attractive.

The following months, the change of vice president seems more and more trustworthy, maybe even unavoidable. But already by April 2012 there is again some hesitation. Vague at first, but growing stronger in the fall. Joe Biden might decide to oppose the change and threaten to fight about it, or the alternative candidate gets cold feet. Barack Obama may also wonder if he's really doing the right thing.

September 2012 this problem leads to a crisis, which can hardly be kept a secret within the White House. It must be very intense and scary to everyone involved – probably also to the public – since the retrograde movement of Pluto ends at almost the exact spot of the trine to Obama's native Pluto (at 6°57'15” in Capricorn, whereas the trine is exact at 6°58'40”). It's as if the heavenly body itself focuses on this very problem and shows uncertainty about where to go from there.

The calamity in these few weeks gives the impression of the future being completely uncertain, but the change is really inevitable and those understanding the situation will see it. There's just a lot of noise before it's a fact. By the end of September the change comes and nobody thinks it can be revoked.

Then things rush on towards the election. If my theory about the drastic change being one of vice president is correct, the horoscope says rather clearly that Obama will win the election. If the change is of another nature, it's still likely he will win – provide he wants to.

Bye Bye Pluto
The transit aspects with Pluto are of tremendous astrological significance, since they appear so rarely. Pluto takes almost a quarter of a millennium to go through the whole Zodiac, so none of us experiences all the transit aspects with that planet. Usually just a few aspects and only once with each.

For example, Barack Obama will not have another transit Pluto aspect with his native Pluto until the year 2049, when they form an opposition (180°). That's when he's in his late 80's, so he might not even live to experience it.

But that's far away. Of course he has aspects coming with transit Pluto and other native planets in his horoscope, especially the conjunctions with his Saturn and Jupiter in the 12th House taking place between 2021 and 2024. Astrologically speaking, they are so important in his horoscope that not even his presidency compares. But that's another story.

PS:
While writing this text, I spot on the news that Barack Obama's longtime companion in the White House, his special assistant Reggie Love, is leaving him. That's an indication of the change the Pluto to Pluto transit aspect creates, albeit a minor one.

The influence of this transit aspect will create more events of that nature – changes in partnership, especially those related to Obama's public role.

The Future of the Internet

The horoscope of the World Wide Web (WWW), the core structure of the Internet, reveals what it brings us and what it fails to accomplish. The chart also shows that the Internet will change drastically the coming few years, 2012 to 2017. After 2025 it will deteriorate, to get unplugged no later than the early 2040's.

On August 6, 1991, computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee at CERN in Geneva posted a message on a newsgroup about hypertext, inviting his readers to try out the first little seed of the World Wide Web. This message, which was sent at 4:37 PM, is widely regarded as the public birth of the Internet.

Few major world events have a documented starting point, which is needed to chart their horoscopes. But the World Wide Web, bringing the world into each computer, is timed to the microsecond. So, we have a fixed birth and a horoscope chart for it.

Where there are several possible starting points to choose from, and for social matters there usually are, each one has its own theme, which should be considered when interpreting the horoscope. The time chosen here, that of the newsgroup message, is particularly fitting to the Internet, since it was the moment when this resource became publicly available – be it only to a group of computer technicians at first. The Internet is indeed a public medium and as such it has made its greatest impact.

Not an Adventure, But a Tool

The immediate impression that society and all its inhabitants got of the Internet was one of creating freedom, independence, and the means for human minds to take off, explore beyond their previous possibilities, and thereby reach a world beyond their expectations. This is shown by the horoscope's Ascendant early in the sign of Sagittarius.

Although that is true, to some extent, the real forte of the Web is in the second house of the horoscope, where Uranus and Neptune join in Capricorn. It shows that the Internet is a fantastic resource, a revolutionary tool by which to accomplish great things of a concrete and lasting nature.

The two planets are in retrograde, implying that the results this resource leads to are not always obvious or preconceived, but very real and significant nonetheless. It was not imagined beforehand that something so intangible could lead to concrete and lasting results, with such overwhelming influence on how things are done in society.

The Moon Node in the same sign also shows that the Internet is all the time moving from the vague and unpredictable to an increasingly important tool for concrete work. It may have started as a kind of toy, but heads forcefully towards being an instrument of work, where its capacity is again and again surprising the world. Through the World Wide Web, dreams become reality and visions are harvested in the present.

At the end of the second house, Saturn appears in Aquarius. This shows that the more the resources of the Internet are explored, the less there is of play and joy. It becomes a source of deepened knowledge and understanding, somewhat like books of old. The Web will contain widened information of the past, to be treated with respect and sincerity. It will be revised to be as trustworthy as an encyclopedia, and content of lesser quality will fade away from it – or get edited out.

Several Things It's Not

The empty third house reveals that the World Wide Web will not at length be a place for people connecting to become friends and enjoy the company of one another. Connections made are purely intellectual, so they tend neither to last nor to be significant in people's lives. Pisces at the end of the house instead says that such friendships will be lost or disappointing. They don't stand the test of reality.

Families are estranged by the Internet. They spend less time together and it gets difficult for them to keep their ties. The World Wide Web makes them search for compensation elsewhere, so that the traditional family structure and its social functions are gradually replaced by other means. Every family member uses the Web to go outside the home to find his or her place in the world.

Nor is the Internet a lasting leisure thing. Aries in the fifth house shows that we try it with eagerness, but we get tired of it just as quickly. The Web might be a kind of door to activities and entertainment, but this door is quickly passed in order to reach other challenges and fascinations. The World Wide Web is unable to be one of the lasting entertainments, but simply the introduction to them. For those seeking enjoyment, the Web will seem boringly predictable.

As for how the Internet is used in people's everyday work, it is established as a routine tool, used much the same as the typewriter before it, and the pen before that – but not really changing the work in any significant way beyond that. People do the same things, have the same functions, are regarded the same at their place of work. Although the resources of the World Wide Web are almost endless, there are few professions changed by it. At work, life goes on, business as usual.

When it comes to personal partner relations, the seventh house in Gemini tells us that the Internet opens a lot of possibilities to find mates, but they are flirts rather than loves, and will not often last. Partners found on the Web might be fun, but rarely invoke passion.

The moon in the same house creates a longing for finding that someone with whom to experience joy and happiness. It happens sometimes, but true satisfaction escapes most such relations. It's too lighthearted and the attraction appearing on the World Wide Web might not at all be the same outside of it.

People will still search partners on the Internet – both for love and for business – but they will learn to expect little more than fun for the moment.

As for the influence of the Internet on those matters that seem eternal enigmas to us, such as life, death, and the meaning of it all, not much is changed by the Web. That utter confusion remains, the deep mysteries also. The eighth house in the sign of Cancer implies that we nourish a hope that somehow, the World Wide Web will help us find solace and light in the darkness. That's one reason for its popularity.

But it's in vain. That's something the Internet, in spite of all its complexity, can neither penetrate nor encompass. It's a tool, not the hand that holds it. We still have to find the great answers. We still have to chase the elusive meaning of it all.

The Power of Expansion

The great changes that the World Wide Web causes, and itself goes through, are indicated by the ninth house in Leo. This house is heavily charged, with both the sun and Jupiter inside of it. Those two are the greatest heavenly bodies in our solar system, so they announce great power. That's also the theme of Leo.

So, the Internet contains great power and tends to increase and expand it radically, from time to time. Those who make use of the World Wide Web will get the same, to the extent they are able to utilize it in accordance with its characteristics.

This power and influence of the Internet is mainly within itself. It makes its own rules, as if in the hands of one strong individual, a Caesar of sorts. Occasionally, one person can grab that mighty control, but not for long. The power is within the Web. One man can have it for a while, but will find little use of it outside that world. The power of the Internet may seem overwhelming, but doesn't really extend beyond it.

Still, to any one person, the Internet can be the vehicle to wondrous change. It holds potent keys to find and achieve it. Such changes are on a personal level and remain there. They may be almost invisible to the community, although they are fabulous to that individual.

The changes to the World Wide Web itself are also overwhelming when they come, and they often do. It grows in strong bursts, again and again beyond what was previously expected. Any prognosis will be an underestimation. It seems to head towards the size of a universe in its own right. That's the main nature of its increased power – its magnificent size and how it continues to increase.

The sextile aspect between Jupiter and the moon shows that it's this continued expansion of the World Wide Web that feeds the longing of people to find their ideal partner through it. Since the Internet seems to be ever-present, should it not be the landscape in which to find one's soul mate? Many rewarding and amusing meetings are accomplished, but no – true soul mates are found elsewhere.

One thing is for certain – there can only be one World Wide Web. The strength of the sun and Jupiter in Leo makes it doubtless. In its expansion, there may be occasional experiments with additional, separate webs, but they are sure to fail. Its unity is its strength, and it has got plenty of it.

At the very end of the house of change, Mercury and Venus are joined in a tight conjunction. But that's in Virgo, the sign of concrete struggle and attention to detail. They indicate that a lot of previously tedious tasks become much easier through the Internet – to the extent that these tasks are increased and multiplied, just because it's suddenly possible.

Mercury states that it's particularly true about anything dealing with communication. New means of communication are introduced, making it possible to communicate more, faster, with greater accuracy, and still easier, decreasing the workload of it.

This constantly innovative and improving capability of the Internet is exactly what makes it such a valuable and important resource, as stated by the second house.

It must be understood that this constant improvement is directed at using the World Wide Web for work and needs that were already established before its introduction. It's not really aimed at renewal of what's being communicated, just at how it's done. Not much new is being said through it, and it's not helping much in revealing new horizons. It's a method, not a message.

The square aspect to the Ascendant shows that this is a surprise and somewhat of a disappointment, in comparison to what the Internet seems to promise. It's not much of a tool for the liberation of the mind or the freedom of thought. It deals more with quantity than quality, and more with how to rationalize existing tasks than creating or inspiring new goals.

Ruling Social Networks

Venus and Mercury are at the very end of the ninth house, almost touching the cusp of the tenth, which rules influence over the social situation. It's in Virgo, the meticulous organizer, so the World Wide Web's main social influence is one of upholding a structure for social exchange and interaction. It's the basis of social networks, especially work oriented ones.

As such, it's firmly demanding. Social networks have to conform to its order in every detail, and these details have a way of deciding the characteristics and contents of the social networks utilizing it. This is caused by Mars, the only planet in this house, being particularly grumpy and regulative in the sign of Virgo.

The World Wide Web sets the rules for social networking, which cannot do without the Web, since its emergence. These rules lead the networking into certain forms, and excludes others. It creates limitations, but instead of finding ways to surpass them, the social networks tend to oblige and conform without questioning.

Mars has a trine aspect to the planets in the second house, pointing out that this firm structure is what makes the World Wide Web a useful resource. Without it, the Web and its effects would be too chaotic. The detailed structure is essential for the Internet being possible to use in a constructive way.

Further into the tenth house, the Zodiac sign shifts from Virgo to Libra. At the very cusp of the latter is Medium Coeli, Midheaven, in the horoscope of the World Wide Web. This reveals that the makers of the Web, as well as those who continue to uphold and develop it, regard it as an instrument for social equality, by which awareness is spread to each and every one.

This is supported by the trine to Saturn in the second house. The Internet is indeed a resource for finding answers and expanding one's knowledge. That's its higher goal, much thanks to the conviction of its makers. It's not the strongest and most influential characteristic of the World Wide Web, but it continues to be true, parallel to how the Web is used in other ways.

The Internet is to our time what the encyclopedias were to the Enlightenment in the 18th century. Although not the dominating ingredient of the Internet, this is definitely its pride, at the core of its reason for existing.

Dreams and Ideals

Equality and justice are key values behind the Internet, remaining through its development. The World Wide Web should be at the hands of all people, not just a privileged few. This ethical spread of its resources advocates a similar spread of any other resource in society.

This is expressed by the eleventh house in Libra, but it contains no planet to put the principles into effect. The ideal remains an ideal, influencing the Web vaguely, but not ruling it. Still, opposing tendencies will seem out of place and lose the support of the majority of the Web's users.

The twelfth and last house of the horoscope shows what sacrifices are made for the whole of it. It contains the sign of Scorpio and the recently degraded planet Pluto. This means that the Internet carries the possibility of fascination, drama, and exciting adventures. But this is neglected or withheld, because of its practical usefulness. The World Wide Web becomes a tool instead of a wondrous ride, a trusted order instead of shocking surprises.

The Internet could just as well have become the source of emotional spectacles, and some still hope that it will. But no, it has become a utility and thereby lost much of its charm.

But the twelfth house is the region of the private and subconscious. There, in the secret chambers of those who seek it, the Internet is indeed able to induce excitement, amazement, shock, and any other passionate response, sometimes far beyond expectations. In the hidden and behind the scenes is where the Internet causes drama.

The Big Changes Come Now

We may think that we know quite well by now, what the World Wide Web is all about and how best to use it. But its in the next few years that its form and resources go through the most dramatic and revolutionary changes it will ever experience.

These last few years, several planets have been passing through its third, fourth, and fifth houses, giving the impression that the Web might mainly be about friendship, family and entertainment. But that's just temporary and misleading. Its major function remains what its horoscope states, which is one of practical use. A structure for communication, mainly work oriented.

As such, it will soon go through radical and surprising changes. Some constructive, some destructive. It will happen when Pluto passes through the horoscope's Uranus and Neptune in the second house. This is a slow and gradual process, spanning over several years, but when completed it will have changed the World Wide Web forever.

These changes will commence by January 2012, when Pluto passes the cusp of the second house. At first they will be discreet, almost invisible, and few will realize their significance. By September that year, the changes may even seem to be reversed. But already the following month it will be clear that the changes introduced will remain and their influence on the Internet will increase.

Early 2013, Pluto passes over the World Wide Web's Uranus, creating a revelation of sorts about how the Web is to be used and how to develop it further, in order to increase its usefulness tremendously.

In February 2015, Pluto makes its first pass over the World Wide Web's Neptune, radically changing what is imagined for the future of the Web. The actual change is going on, but here also the vision of what it can become in the future is transformed, following what the present process of change implies.

The whole process goes on until early 2017, when the Internet has been completely transformed. By then, its main function as a resource and tool for practical and organized endeavors is undisputed, and alternative dreams for it are fading away. It has ceased to be exciting and no more surprises are expected from it.

The Final Transformation

But that will prove not to be entirely true. One more major transformation of it remains. It starts to emerge in the spring of 2023, but the change is still a couple of years off.

Early in 2025, Pluto makes its first pass over the World Wide Web's Saturn in the sign of Aquarius. This will start to transform the Web into a place for learning. It will be more of an encyclopedia than a tool for getting things done. A place where wisdom of old is kept in its entirety, and this is deemed so important that any other function of the Internet is devalued, even despised.

This is a process that takes about a year. It seems to be the final change of the World Wide Web. It becomes a fabulous library of knowledge, accessible to all. And that's it.

Nothing as spectacular is ahead for the World Wide Web in more than a hundred years, so it's likely that by the end of 2026 it has found its remaining value as a link to things of old, and the world has found something else to take its place regarding any other functions.

If it exists at all by the early 2040's, when Pluto moves into an opposing aspect to the World Wide Web's Mercury and Venus, it will certainly be unplugged at this time. People may not even notice it, since by then it has not made the news for more than 15 years.

The Empty Horoscope of a Mass Murderer

On July 22, 2011, Anders Behring Breivik set off a car bomb in central Oslo, Norway, and a couple of hours later he killed 69 persons on the nearby island of Utöya. His horoscope shows no sign of it.

His terrible deed is impossible to comprehend. For almost an hour and a half, he walked around the idyllic little island of Utöya, where there was a social democrat youth gathering, shooting everyone in sight. Most of his victims were teenagers.

He has shown no remorse at all, nor any other sign that his monstrous brutality affected him. That's extreme even for a psychopath.

His horoscope shows no clear sign of this monstrosity, nor does the transit horoscope for July 22. His charts are unusually bland, as if relating to someone lacking a personality.

Birth Chart With Few Clues

As for Anders Behring Breivik's birth chart, I was unable to find the time of day, so I had to make a horoscope based only on the day of his birth, the 13th of February 1979 in London, where his father worked at the time. To minimize the chart's error, I calculated it for 12:00 noon. That way, the horoscope can be no more than 12 hours wrong.

Also, I excluded the Ascendant and the MC, since they move through the whole Zodiac in just one day. Therefore, the astrological houses are also excluded, since they are based on the position of the Ascendant.

Still, most of the planetary positions are pretty much the same, no matter what time of day he was born. The moon moves 13 degrees each day, so its position in the horoscope should not be taken for granted, but the other heavenly bodies don't move much in just 12 hours.

His horoscope has two clusters, indicating important aspects of his personality and life. One consists of the sun, Mercury, and Mars, in the sign of Aquarius. The other cluster is the moon (though its position is uncertain), Saturn, and the Dragon's Head (the moon's north node), in Virgo.

The former cluster is the most important one, not only because of the presence of the sun, which is the major heavenly body of the horoscope. Also Mars needs to be considered carefully, since it's by an act of extreme violence Breivik has sealed his fate.

The trio is at the end of Aquarius, which deals with contemplation and intellectual process. That's certainly true in Breivik's case. It's by elaborate and long-time reasoning (although twisted) he reached the decision to carry out his terrorist acts.

Mercury's presence in the cluster stresses that this intellectual process was both the instigator and the goal. Most of the nine years he prepared for his terror attack, he spent writing a 1500 page document explaining his world-view and strategic scheme. In this document he states repeatedly that his main reason for the attack is to bring attention to his document.

That's a process nourished by the three planets at the end of Aquarius, a position of some confusion and uncertainty. In a way, his aim was to convince himself of his thoughts and conclusions.

The other cluster, that of the moon, Saturn, and the Dragon's Head, is in the middle of Virgo, the sign of work, scrutiny, and criticism. Saturn in this position complicates matters, although it's in retrograde (seemingly moving backwards in the sky). Its effect is always severe and grim to some extent, often the heaviest burden in anyone's horoscope. This leads to concrete action in Virgo. Saturn becomes additionally bitter and straining in this sign.

The moon's north and south node form a staight line in the horoscope, describing a main direction of one's life – from one to the other. In this case, where the north node is in conjunction with the moon and Saturn, whereas the south node has no neighboring planets, the direction of Breivik's life must be towards the north node.

The south node in Pisces speaks about confusion and a restless search for meaning. The north node in Virgo indicates ending this confusion by springing into concrete action. Saturn makes this action serious and grim, the moon makes it passionate.

Of course, these horoscope ingredients don't point at such beastly action as that of Breivik. They appear in many horoscopes. But in his case, they were driving forces in the extreme actions of his. I see no way of realizing beforehand the monstrosity of their manifestation, but these are the likely astrological circumstances expressed.

The two clusters have no aspects (certain significant angles between planets) to one another, but some lesser aspects to other planets in Breivik's horoscope. The remaining five planets are spread out in a weakening way, creating no other point of force in the horoscope.

All of his planets are placed rather evenly in the signs Leo to Aquarius, which is slightly more than half of the Zodiac. Except for the clusters in Virgo and Aquarius, there is one planet in each of the other five signs in this part of the Zodiac. This wide spread is one of fragmentation and confusion.

Some of the planets are connected by aspects, but not in a way that stands out. The clusters have squares, a constructive and destructive aspect, to other planets: Both the sun and Mars are in square to Uranus in Scorpio, indicating a defiant attitude to reason, even a fear of disappointment if following it. The moon nodes are in square to Neptune in Sagittarius, which hints a reluctance to accept what seems to lie in the future.

Still, nothing to clearly indicate the dreadful outcome. The same goes for the transit horoscopes, where Breivik's chart is compared to the planetary positions of the day of the terrorist act.

As If Nothing Happened the 22nd of July

After nine years of preparation, Anders Behring Breivik went into action on July 22, 2011. He published his 1500 page document on the Internet, set off a big car bomb in Oslo, and ended by shooting 69 people to death on the island of Utöya, 40 kilometers from Oslo. If anything, this day should be heavily marked by transits to his horoscope.

Not so. Not at all.

Anders Behring Breivik's transit horoscope for July 22, 2011, at 3:25 PM.

At 3:25 PM the Oslo bomb exploded. The transit horoscope shows that there are no aspects to Breivik's birth chart. Not a single one. This is very rare for any given moment and any horoscope, although the orb allowed for a transit is just one degree. There's always a few.

So, this moment is like it never happened to Breivik at all. It has no significance to him.

At 5:07 PM, less than two hours later, Breivik arrived to Utöya and started shooting people. This methodical mass murder of teenagers is so grotesque that it would be even more significant in Breivik's life. Also, he spent almost an hour and a half doing it, joyously according to reports, as if he had longed for it during the nine years of preparation.

But in the transit horoscope, there's just one little aspect appearing – a sextile between the sun in Breivik's chart and the moon in the sky above Utöya. A moon aspect brings little more than a mood swing, since they appear so often and pass so quickly. It indicates nothing more than that he enjoyed his activity at the moment, as if playing a game.

Really, it's as if he wasn't there.

April 2002 – the Real Beginning

Horoscopes are about beginnings. They mark the birth of people and events. So, if the above charts are correct, they indicate that the terrible events on July 22 were not at all starts of anything in the life of Anders Behring Breivik. Conclusions, no doubt, but not starts.

This he points out very clearly in his 1500 page document. Again and again he mentions what he regards as the start of it all, and that's in April 2002. He gives no exact date, but this month he claims to have been in London, participating in the formation of a kind of Knights Templar Order, with the purpose of commencing war against what he imagines to be a Muslim invasion of Europe.

From that moment, he spent his life working towards the terror attack, seemingly having even the details of his attack clear that very early on. So, that's the moment when it all began in his mind. April 2002.

To minimize errors, I checked with a transit for the 15th of April that year. Indeed, there is more than in the transits of July 22, 2011.

Mercury in the cluster of Aquarius, mentioned above, was in conjunction with transit Uranus in mid-April of 2002. Transit Saturn was in square with Saturn of his Virgo cluster. Transit Jupiter was in opposition to his native Venus and in sextile with his native moon (but that position is uncertain).

That's not exactly great astrological fireworks, but it's significantly more than for July 22, 2011.

The Uranus conjunction indicates that at the time, Breivik reached some insight or conclusion on matters constantly on his mind. An intellectual process of great significance to him commenced. Surely the writing of that 1500 page document.

The Saturn square to Breivik's Saturn reveals a moment of grim sincerity. Transit Saturn is in Gemini, so it deals with communication, mainly the exchange of words. Agitation. But it's a transit of frustration. He might have concluded that words, no matter how sharply spoken, are not enough.

The opposition between Jupiter and his Venus is of less significance in this setting, but it implies that some chain of events of an emotional kind will interrupt with his ability to accomplish a well-to-do situation for himself. He commits to something that will obstruct him from enjoying life. The sextile to the moon confirms that it's a commitment made emotionally rather than with reason.

It has to be said that none of this suggests clearly the dreadful outcome, but it's much more of a beginning than the actual terrorist acts were. For Anders Behring Breivik, that is.

A Triggering Newspaper Article

Unfortunately, Anders Behring Breivik gives no more exact date of the London event than April, 2002. In addition, the whole thing with a secret meeting forming an Order of medieval kind, seems very much like fiction, an invention of his mind. Did something else happen that month, triggering Breivik?

On April 24, 2002, the Norwegian daily newspaper Verdens Gang (VG) published an interview with a Muslim fundamentalist, who talked about winning Norway over to Islam. Breivik is sure to have read the article and just as sure to have been very upset by it. In his mind, it may have confirmed his belief in a Muslim invasion, although the Muslim leader speaks of non-violent action only.

It's also interesting that this Muslim leader lived in London at the time, the city where Breivik claims to have participated in the formation of the Templar Order that same month. Did his imagination create a counter-action, imitating but reversing how he perceived the interview?

Anders Behring Breivik's transit horoscope for April 24, 2002, at 6:42 AM.

Here we have a precise date, to the minute. The article was published on the newspaper's website at 6:42 AM on April 24, 2002. This transit horoscope has all the previously mentioned aspects of April 15, and two more:

An opposition between transit Mercury in Taurus and Breivik's Uranus in Scorpio shows concretely expressed thoughts that contradict Breivik's perception of the world and the threats to it. One might say that the Muslim leader frustrated Breivik by not confirming his prejudice, something Breivik would have interpreted as deceit by the Muslim, increasing his fear.

A square between transit Venus in Taurus and Breivik's Mercury is slightly more interesting, because it involves one of the planets in the Aquarius cluster. This suggests that some material gains came to Breivik in a way that he would have preferred to see coming differently. He was disappointed by things not being as bad as he liked to think.

Well, interesting but again not nearly enough to explain the terrorist act and its nine years of preparation.

I went through the other days of April 2002, and some of them have more aspects, such as April 8 and 17, but none that add significantly to what is stated by the aspects already mentioned.

Other Significant Dates

Taking a broader look at Anders Behring Breivik's horoscope, I find other dates and periods that seem much more significant to him than all of the above.

His Neptune position in Sagittarius indicates far-fetched fantasies about the future (something he shares with his generation). In 1986, when he was seven years old, transit Uranus passed it, probably introducing a world view to which he still clings on, especially regarding his imagination about the future.

In 1992, when Breivik was 13, transit Pluto passed over his Uranus, which must have made a significant impression on him (as well as on most people of his age). His fear of what would emerge from deep contemplation and extended thought processes seemed to be confirmed by big events around him. The nature of those events in Breivik's life would be great clues to what kind of fear he started to nourish.

In the same period, transit Saturn passed over the cluster in Aquarius, adding tension and drama to this time of his life, especially regarding what took place in his mind.

In 2004, two years after the above mentioned April 2002 events, transit Pluto reached Breivik's Neptune, whereby he would have jump-started the realization of his future fantasy. Therefore, I would assume that he might have started writing his manifesto in 2002, when transit Uranus reached his Mercury in the Aquarius cluster, but he started to work on his terrorist act in 2004, imagining that he was thereby creating the future of his choice.

In the following few years, transit Neptune passed over his Aquarius cluster, making him go deep into his own fantasy. That lasted well into 2010. In this period he would have increasingly lost touch with reality. This confusion was increased in 2009, when Jupiter passed over the cluster.

In addition, transit Saturn passed over his Virgo cluster in 2009, including his first Saturn return (transit Saturn passing over Saturn in the birth chart). That's a trying time in anybody's life, reminding us about obligations in life and the fact that the clock ticks on. To Breivik it was a reminder to move towards concrete action.

In 2012, transit Pluto will reach his Venus in Capricorn, which changes his material situation considerably and dramatically. One would assume that's the start of a long prison sentence, affecting the rest of his life. The date of this transit is a bit uncertain, because we lack the time of Breivik's birth, but it can't be earlier than late 2011 or later than 2012.

The most important transit that awaits Breivik would be when Pluto passes over the cluster in Aquarius, which begins in 2034 and continues for about six years. It's not unlikely that by then, he loses touch with reality completely.

Something Unreal

There is something unreal about him, altogether, from an astrological perspective. It's a pity that we don't yet know his birth time. A chart based on his exact time of birth might add the clues needed to figure Breivik out – or not.

Astrology and the horoscope have some shortcomings. One of them is the difficulty to pinpoint amplitude – the level of force by which planets and aspects are expressed. This is certainly the case with Breivik's horoscope, too. There are indications as to how his mind works and how he is inclined to act – but nothing that reveals the terrible outcome.

The Age of Aquarius Is Still Distant

We've heard that we enter the Age of Aquarius, where wisdom will flourish in a world finally maturing. Unfortunately, that's still more than a hundred years into the future – and the time until then will be one of intensified religious aggression. Faith will not yield without battle.

Astrological Ages

Western astrology has an annual starting point in the Spring Equinox, March 21, which is also when the sun enters Aries. But the latter is not exactly true. The Earth wobbles slowly as it spins around its own axis, which makes the Spring Equinox move around the whole Zodiac. It's called the precession of the equinoxes.

One such rotation around the Zodiac takes about 25,870 years. That means it travels through one Zodiac sign in almost 2,160 years. The movement is backwards, so it goes from Aries to Pisces to Aquarius, and so on. That's why we talk about astrological ages. Each era of about 2,160 years is signified by the characteristics of the Zodiac sign where the Spring Equinox actually takes place.

Right now, the Spring Equinox is at the beginning of the sign Pisces, which means that we are approaching the end of the Age of Pisces. When the Equinox moves into Aquarius, we move into the Age of Aquarius.

Since we base our years on the (mistaken) birth year of Christ, it's safe to say that the year 1 CE (there is no year 0) is the starting point of the present era, the Age of Pisces. So, we have lived in this era for something like 2,010 years, and the next era, the Age of Aquarius, will begin approximately in the year 2160.

Its starting point is not likely to be at a certain day, not even a specific year – at least not how it's perceived when it comes. The change is vast and complex, so it will take its time – both before and after the year 2160.

But we're definitely not there yet. We have not entered the Age of Aquarius. We're at the end of the Age of Pisces, which is one where the characteristics of Pisces forcefully struggle to stand their ground, in a battle against the characteristics of Aquarius.

The Age of Pisces

Pisces stands for faith, belief, sacrifice, and religion. Aquarius represents thought, contemplation, innovation, and science. In the movement from the former era to the latter, religion battles science.

This is very evident in our present world. We might have thought that science triumphed already by the discoveries of Newton, Darwin, Einstein, and many other scientists. But these last few decades we see religion making an aggressive fundamentalist comeback, as if we have to choose between the two cosmologies, although they really speak about completely different things, with completely different languages.

The Three Periods of an Era

As the Spring Equinox travels slowly through a Zodiac sign, that era goes through three main stages that correspond to the three qualities of the Zodiac: cardinal, fixed, and mutable. A Zodiac sign can have either of the three qualities. Pisces is mutable, whereas Aquarius is fixed.

But also, every sign can be divided into three parts, each spanning ten of the thirty degrees of the sign. They are called decans, which comes from the Greek word for ten: deka. So, the first ten degrees of a sign belong to the cardinal decan of it, the eleventh to twentieth degree are in the fixed decan, and the twenty-first to thirtieth degree are in the mutable decan.

The cardinal quality is one of leadership, of boldly moving on in the direction of one's own initiative, demanding others to follow. The fixed quality is that of one who remains where he's at, unwilling to lead and equally unwilling to follow. The mutable quality is that of the follower, who seeks others up and goes where they point, even it it leads to personal sacrifices.

Pisces is a mutable sign, but its three decans still have their own tendencies – although none of them is more typical in its characteristic than the mutable one, because it's in accord with the general quality of the sign.

Still, an era can be described as a process through the three decans, where each takes slightly more than 700 years. Since the Spring Equinox moves backwards through the Zodiac, these decan periods also go backwards. The first period of an era is the mutable one, next the fixed, and last the cardinal one.

This means, generally speaking, that an era starts by searching for its identity, in a process taking 700 years or so. The next 700 years, it's established and remains quite conservatively in this state of affairs. The last 700 years, it's increasingly involved in battles to remain and keep its dominance – in vain, of course, since a new era will come. But the process is both noisy and costly.

Three Phases of the Religious Era

The Age of Pisces can be divided accordingly. The first period of the Christian era, until about 720 CE (but it is not that exact), the religion gradually found, explored, and established itself. It was a time of excited religious speculation, where lots of people were willing to make great sacrifices for the sake of it. This period of the Age of Pisces was the most inspired and significant one, because Pisces is a mutable sign.

During the second period of the Age of Pisces, circa 720-1440, the Christian religion was well established and very powerful. It controlled society, without being that much questioned or opposed. European society was solidly Christian, ruled by its teachings, and this seemed to have the power to go on forever.

In the third period, circa 1440-2160, the existing religious cosmology and world order is increasingly questioned and needs to defend itself with more and more force. This is what we see around us. Scientific perspectives challenge the religious paradigm, and religion responds by challenging science. It is also true for politics and every other aspect of civilization – religion opposes all alternative lines of thought.

Since the coming era is the Age of Aquarius, where reason and science are the ideals, the religious powers will aim their battles at just that.

The fundamentalist questioning of Darwin's theories is just one of the examples of this. It started way before 1633, when the inquisition demanded of Galileo to deny his astronomical findings. Copernicus had suggested a heliocentric universe (with the sun, and not the Earth, in the center) a hundred years earlier. Even more important was the rediscovery of the Greek philosophers at the end of the Middle Ages, stimulating scientific thinking instead of blind belief.

From the Renaissance and on, religion has been increasingly questioned, particularly from a scientific standpoint. This is expressed in the anecdote about Napoleon asking Laplace why he did not even once mention God in his book about the mechanics of the universe. Laplace replied: “I had no need of that hypothesis.”

The religious world order is struggling for its life. The closer we get to the grand finale, which is the start of the Age of Aquarius, the more desperately religion will fight that change.

The Age of Aquarius Will Not Be Perfect

The Age of Aquarius is no picnic, either. It has its advantages, compared to the Age of Pisces, but also its drawbacks. In this era, knowledge is king. The compassion developed during the Age of Pisces is replaced by the firm rule of reason, whatever the costs.

There is great intolerance in science. It is even less prone than religion to accept doubt. What religion regards as true is a question of faith and belief, so it's open to choice. What science regards as true is called fact, and can only be discussed within its own system of reason. Its claim of truth is much more rigid and firm. It even claims that what is not a proven fact can't exist.

In science, every moment in time has its facts, and these rule the world unconditionally. It brings great discoveries and advancements to just about every field of living, but it also demands of us to be rational creatures, and it's not certain that we are.

There will be ups and downs in the Age of Aquarius, just as there have been in the Age of Pisces. This, too, we have already experienced to some extent, especially in the last hundred years or so.

Science and its discoveries can be blessings, but also the opposite. Whatever the consequence of scientific advances, science claims to be innocent, as if perfect. It's not.

That may not be evident to everyone in its first period, in the mutable decan of its sign. But at its fixed period, around the years 2880-3600 (if we haven't changed our calendar by then), the pros and cons of Aquarius ruling our civilization will be obvious. That will also be the major period of the era, since Aquarius is a fixed sign.

Then the process towards the Age of Capricorn will slowly commence. But that's so far into the future, we do better to focus on what's in store for us right here and now.

The coming 150 years will be adventurous, to say the least. The main conflict, between religion and science, will be severe to all. There's no doubt who will eventually triumph, but there will be very strong powers refusing to accept it. At times, they may even seem to be winning. They are not. Actually, each of their victories creates nothing but the next reason for their coming defeat.

Astrology and the horoscope have methods for studying just about any aspect of human life. Sex is certainly one such aspect, and far from the least important one at that. Here are some basics on how your sex life shows up in your horoscope.

You should not take the below too seriously. Anything regarding the human nature is far more complex than what can be sufficiently interpreted by any one system of analysis, such as the tools of astrology and the horoscope. Also, there is no definite scientific proof of astrology and the validity of its theories.

Therefore, see the following text primarily as entertainment of sorts, and a way by which you can contemplate your sexuality from a very different viewpoint. In addition, the subject gives a good example of the principles of astrology at work.

Observe that there are several parts of your horoscope making up your sexuality. Some of them seem to contradict one another, but you have to be aware of the different sides of your sex life that they concern. Also, of course, our personalities are so complex that they contain several contradictions. That's what we have to live with.

Barack Obama - The electorate vote

Just to be complete, I checked Barack Obama's horoscope for the date when the US Electoral College votes on the next president, which is on December 15, 2008. Although the popular vote is decisive, the actual appointing of the president is done by the electorate's vote.

On December 15, transit Jupiter forms a very precise conjunction with Obama's Saturn in the 12th House and Capricorn. Since Jupiter is the big agent of success, especially in things of multitude – like voting – this is a strong indicator of his victory in this election as well.

There is also a conjunction between transit Saturn and his Mars in the 8th House and Virgo. This indicates duties and power that increase his ability to deal with things that are normally beyond any person's means. It also forcefully puts such responsibilities on him. It suggests the increased authority he will receive as president, and also point out that he will use it quite forcefully – and that this is expected of him.

Both the above conjunctions are in earth signs, which stand for concrete matters and action that leads to solid results.

On December 15, there's also a cluster of planets in his 11th House, that of his public life: Mars, the sun, Pluto, and Mercury. So, already before he enters the presidential office, he is the center of public attention, intensely exposed in the media, sort of as if the campaign continued. That's no surprise.

The Congress
Another day is the date of the official presentation of the electorate vote to the congress, which is January 6, 2009. That day, transit Jupiter is conjunct with Obama's Jupiter in the 12th House – again a strong indicator of his success, especially in matters of multitude, like a vote.

Transit Saturn has commenced a retrograde (seemingly backward) movement away from Mars in his 8th House, which indicates that his power decreases. Since this is the date when the elect Congress is in place and starting to act, the retrograde movement suggests that this Congress, although with a majority of Democrats, is not willing to surrender much of its power to the new president. Probably, the Democrats will be eager to use their majority, and have no intention to just wait for Obama's initiatives.

On January 6, transit Pluto is back in opposition to Barack Obama's Venus in the 5th House, showing that he will not have much time for himself. Since this is Venus obstructed, a lot of the joy of his life is diminished, which is something that takes its toll on a person at length. And with Pluto as the opposing planet, this is definitely at length.

He gets power, which is shown by Pluto being in his 11th House, but he won't have that much fun.

A sextile between transit Mars and Obama's Neptune in the 9th House shows that he is in the process of moving in to the White House, and this change of life will be swift and positive.

Mars also has a trine with his Pluto in the 7th House, indicating that his intensified public role stimulates changes in his partnership. His wife is likely to enjoy her new role, and this puts a new spark in their marriage – one of activity more than love, though.

Retrograde and the 12th House

I have to repeat what I have hinted before: Barack Obama's political career is mainly based on his Saturn and Jupiter in the 12th House, which is normally one of sacrifice and elusive longings. Also, both those planets are in retrograde, which makes them weakened and slightly complicated.

So, although Obama won the presidency with a clear majority, his position as president will not be as strong and solid as now seems the case. The Democratic majority in the Congress and Senate will be almost as difficult for him to master, as if they were Republicans.

Also, the fact that he has to take over when the USA is in its weakest financial state since who knows when, will make his job quite difficult. His popularity might not falter, but his political initiative will meet with many obstacles. And he will most definitely be used as a scapegoat by just about everybody else with political power.

And Mars in his 8th House is reason for concern. There are definitely threats to his person that should be taken seriously. And in crucial moments, he can't always trust that he has the support needed.

But he knew all along that it wasn't going to be easy.

Barack Obama - Presidential horoscope

In my previous reading of Barack Obama's horoscope, I wrongly predicted that he would lose the presidential election. So, here I reexamine his horoscope in an effort to find how it should be rightly interpreted, and what it has to say about his future as the 44th US president.

I begin by examining some important events of Barack Obama's past, in order to see how transit aspects work in his horoscope. It's also a test to see if the birth date and birth time given can be trusted. They should be, since they come from his published birth certificate – but you never know.

Below, I include the part of my text that focuses on what it leads to regarding how the Election Day and some future events should be interpreted.

The election
Now, we turn to the event that I got completely wrong, in my previous interpretation of Barack Obama's horoscope. On November 4, he won the presidential election, but I thought that he would lose it. I didn't see any transit aspects strong enough on this date, to indicate his victory.

Honestly speaking, I still don't see them. Sure, in every poll Obama was early on indicated to win the election – but nobody trusted the polls that much, for a number of reasons. For this the most important election of his life, neither would Obama. He would not believe in his victory until the results came in, or at least not until a few days before that.

But the only transits aspects worth mentioning are none of them strong or significative enough to point out his victory. They just aren't, so this historical event seems to pass by almost unnoticed in Obama's life, which can't be the case.

The transit moon formed a conjunction with his Saturn early on the day of the election, and in the evening with Jupiter. That encircles both the planets instrumental in the emergence of Obama's political career, described above. But it's just the moon. It forms the same aspects every month, and it means little more than that he feels good about his sacrifice.

Transit Mars forms a sextile with his native Mars in the 8th House, indicating an advancement in his social position, helped by matters out of his control. This aspect is far from as frequent as those with the moon, but still it happens every year and a half.

Transit Mercury forms a square with Jupiter, showing that he adapts to a change that is slightly unfortunate, and the transit sun forms the same aspect to his native sun, showing changes that affect his working situation. But these are annual aspects of minor importance.

That's it. Not much of a horoscope for this unprecedented presidential election.

Some more powerful aspects precede or follow after this date: Neptune's earlier passing over Obama's ascendant has been discussed above, Jupiter is on the way toward Saturn and Jupiter in his 12th House, and Saturn is moving toward Mars in his 8th House. But those aspects are too far away on November 4 to explain the victory.

So, this remains a mystery. Some would call it a strong argument against astrology, but I would wait with that. When we've followed Obama's life a little bit longer, the lack of astrological marks on this day may be explained.

The Inauguration
The Inauguration is on January 20, 2009. This date is vastly more interesting, according to Barack Obama's horoscope. Maybe Obama just can't believe that he got the job, before he actually takes over the presidency?

On Inauguration Day, a cluster of the sun, Mercury and Jupiter is gathered at Obama's native Jupiter in the 12th House. It shows great activity regarding his sacrifice, lots of things springing into action, demanding and getting a lot of his capacity, which is increasing at that time, to meet the demands.

Transit Jupiter is in a trine to his moon in the 4th House, indicating that his family life actually benefits from this. Moving to the White House seems to do his family good, and no doubt it's one spectacular home.

The transit moon is right over his Midheaven (MC), which is not a rare event, but it shows his delight in the event, and the shine it brings to his official role.

Transit Pluto is in opposition to his native Venus, which is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Pluto in the 11th House shows that a major and vastly important change in his public life robs him out of almost all spare time. So, he will not allow himself the frequent and extended vacations that Bush indulged in. He will miss the many pleasant things in life, and he will not be able to care for people in his surroundings as much as he has before, but he willingly takes on his public role nonetheless. Pluto in Capricorn shows that this role is concrete and impressive.

Transit Saturn passes over his Mars in the 8th House, showing that he gets some serious duties regarding relatives or matters out of human control. This aspect indicates the gravity of the functions he accepts, and also that the powers connected to the office are so vast that they are not possible to control in every detail – but he will try, and he succeeds more with this than others would have thought possible.

Transit Mars in on the cusp to the 12th House, which is the major House in regards to Obama's political career, as has been seen in the above.

The significance of the 12th House is also what got me way off, in my previous prediction of Barack Obama's chances to become president. I could not see that the 12th House would point to victory in the election, since this House usually signals loss and shortcomings. But in Obama's case it has been the House of his political commitment, as can be seen above.

Although being elected president of the USA is regarded as ultimate success by the whole world, to Obama as a person its costs are tremendous. He knows it, and he's willing to pay the price – but to him personally, it involves more of a sacrifice than any personal gain. He will not even get a salary that compares to what's demanded of him. Not to mention the complete loss of a private life.

Previous presidents have mostly been driven by aspects to the 11th or 10th House – those of public fame and social career. I made the mistake of taking that for granted. But this guy actually does if for ideal reasons, sort of like a patriot going to war. He knows it will hurt him, but that won't stop him.

Not only is this election historical because of the new president's skin color, but also because of his conscience.

Transit Uranus and Venus are by the cusp of the 2nd House, showing that although he has little control of his own means in this situation, he will find ways, mostly because of his creative thinking and adaptivity. He will get resources that seem to come out of thin air.

Conclusion
I found the excuse for my previous mistaken prediction about Barack Obama's election to president. Astrologically, I was misled by the fact that his horoscope for the day of the election gave no clues, and by not knowing that his political career is based on events in his 12th House, which is very rare in such cases.

Now, I think I understand his horoscope better, so I should move on to see what's I store for him in the future. Some other day.

For now, I settle with hesitantly pointing out that basing his presidency in the 12th House, also being inaugurated with Saturn at his Mars, is kind of a risky thing. He is vulnerable to sudden interferences and turns of events, directed right at him. Already in February 2009 there are some such challenges to his well-being, when transit Mars and Jupiter in the 12th House oppose his sun.

He's not heading for an easy life. But he knows that.

I was wrong – Obama won

Reading his horoscope some time ago, I predicted that Obama would lose the presidential election. Sometimes it's great to be wrong. I will post another astrological forecast shortly, and we'll see if that one does any better. In the mean time, have a laugh at my mistaken prediction here:

Joe Biden's horoscope and the election

Frankly, I have not been the least bit tempted to do Joe Biden's horoscope, although I did so with all the other final candidates at the presidential election of 2008. I saw that pearly white smile of his, and concluded that I would not buy a used car from him.

But now I've learned some more about his past, and that triggered me to finally check out his horoscope. In particular, I was moved to learn about the car accident that killed his wife and his daughter on December 18, 1972, very soon after he was elected senator for the first time.

I can understand that it made him ponder life, god, and everything. Sublime success followed by monstrous tragedy – it could be an old Greek drama.

I was also impressed that he continued as a lonely father for his two sons, who survived the car crash just barely, giving them higher priority than the senate. Before the accident, he had been a man of sometimes questionable character, but he matured into someone whose used car I would dare to buy – and whose horoscope I had to check out.

Birth time uncertainty
As is often the case with celebrities, his birth time is not confirmed. He was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania. That's no discussion. But the birth time to be found on the internet, 8:30 AM, is in no way certain. I have not even been able to ascertain where it's from. It's just there – as so much on the internet.

Anyway, it puts his ascendant in Sagittarius, the sign of freedom and independence. And it makes his 12th House in Scorpio full of planets: Mars, Mercury, the sun and Venus. That House is called the Hell of the horoscope, and surely the tragic car accident confirms that he has had to live through one. Still to this day, he always refuses to work on December 18th.

The 12th House is in Scorpio, the sign most connected to death and the unknown beyond it.

His ascendant is in an almost exact opposition aspect to Uranus by the cusp of his 7th House – that of partnership. Interestingly, the planet is on the way from the 6th House, that of work, to the cusp of the next House, indicating that from the perspective of his work he moves toward the realization of the fundamental importance of a life partner. Since the accident, he has been quite aware of the importance of not letting the former stand in the way of the latter.

Saturn in the 7th House shows the serious problems his partnership has experienced. That's enhanced because the planet is in retrograde (seemingly moving backwards, from a geocentric perspective), which is a weakening and frustrating ingredient that is particularly grim when it happens to Saturn.

In spite of his impressive political career, what has made the most impact on his life is definitely that accident.

In the 8th House, which is the one dealing the most with death, he has Cancer – the motherly sign – and the planet Jupiter in retrograde. Jupiter is normally a lucky planet, but in retrograde it is more likely to be unlucky.

It is connected with trines to three of the planets in the 12th House. Again, the trine is normally a benevolent aspect, but connecting the 8th and the 12th House it can have quite drastic expressions.

Pluto in the 9th House and Leo suggests that Joe Biden will have several drastic changes in his life, moving from one place to another, and finding himself in need of personal change as well. He is causing most of those changes himself, but destiny tends to push him further than he might have planned. Pluto's sextile to Saturn in the 7th House implies that several of these changes have to do with his partnership.

His Neptune is by the end of the 10th House and in Libra, showing his dream of really making a difference in the world, correcting and renewing it. It is a dream more than reality, since the planet has not reached the cusp of the 11th House, and it is a planet of dreams. His failures at running for president show this clearly. That dream just doesn't become real.

The accident
I have mentioned the car accident of December 18th, 1972, where his first wife and daughter died. The transits at that time speak quite clearly.

Mars was in an almost exact conjunction with Mercury, the planet of childhood as well as communication, in his 12th House. Saturn is moving in retrograde toward his native retrograde Saturn in the 7th House, that of his partnership. Pluto has recently passed over Neptune at the end of his 10th House, indicating the election of him to the senate. Transit Neptune has recently passed an opposition to his native Uranus by the cusp of his 7th House, as well as to that cusp.

Put together, these transits seem to fit that tragic event. Also the Houses make so much sense that I have to wonder if the birth date given has been chosen by an astrologer just to make this happen. That suspicion is increased by the fact that the transit moon is in an almost exact opposition to the ascendant, right on the cusp of the 7th House.

On the other hand, a rectified birth date would not land on such an even clock as 8:30. Also, a few minutes differ for the moon to be exactly on the cusp of the 7th House. The same is true for the other transits. None of them is exact. At least one of them would be, if an astrologer had rectified the birth time.

Election day
Looking at the transits on the election day, November 4th, one thing is very striking: Mars is on just about exactly the same position as it was on the day of the car accident in 1972. On the coming election day (noon) it will be 21°44'28" Scorpio, and on the day of the accident it was 21°53'44". That's a difference of little more than a tenth of a degree.

So, Mars indicates that it will be an unfortunate day for Joe Biden.

Mars travels through the whole Zodiac in a year and a half, so that's how often Joe Biden experiences this transit – but still it's striking that this time it happens on the very day of the election.

Transit Neptune in Joe Biden's 3rd House is in square with his native Mercury, mentioned above. Neptune is much slower around the Zodiac, so this transit happens to him only once. It means that hopes and dreams about meeting and befriending new people are obstructed by his inability to communicate as he really wants to.

The transit sun is in an even more exact conjunction with his native Mars, also in the 12th House. That would add force to him, but since it's in that House it will be held back, leading to frustration.

There is more. Transit Saturn is about to pass over his Medium Coeli, showing heavy duties about to land on him. The same MC (as well as transit Saturn) is opposed by Uranus in his 4th House, that of family and home. Revelations about the latter have to stand back for a serious boost of his career – or the other way around.

Also, transit Venus in his 1st House is in square with his MC. It suggests that things improving his character and making other people enjoy him more, are obstructed by his approaching responsibility. He may have trouble seeing this himself.

Transit Mercury in his 11th House opposes the moon in his 5th, which means that talks and other activities in the public arena makes him unsatisfied and unable to care for himself as he would like to.

That's quite a lot of transits for Joe Biden on election day. Still, it's not that easy to decide if they mean victory or defeat at the election. I tend toward the latter. Most of these transits indicate trouble and disappointment.

But becoming vice president is no picnic. It is bound to cause both trouble and disappointment, especially since that would mean another guy is still in charge.

So, I hesitate to decide. But I can tell you this: the transits for Biden on election day show that this day is much more important and significant to him than it is to Barack Obama. It's a strange world we live in.

Inauguration day
At the day of inauguration of the next president, January 20, 2009, transit Saturn is moving retrograde toward his MC, which implies that he is about to lose a position he seemed to be granted. It can also mean that he is about to get a position he earlier seemed to escape.

Saturn is also in an almost exact sextile to Mercury in his 12th House, so whatever Saturn indicates about his social position, it means that he is not hindered by his tendency to suppress his communication with others.

Pluto is in square with his Neptune and trine with his moon. I'd say it suggests a drastic change of his role that conflicts his dreams of leadership, but benefits his personal needs. Instead of a high office, he gets time for himself.

There's a cluster of transit planets right before the cusp to his 3rd House – Mercury in retrograde, the sun, and Jupiter. They have a trine to his native Neptune, and a square to his moon, which is the reversed of what transit Pluto has. This implies that he is about to gain new friends and contacts that do improve his chances of leadership in the future, but at the cost of his personal life.

Jupiter in that transit cluster is in a sextile with Joe Biden's ascendant, again suggesting that he will be able to present himself to new people.

So, he may not get closer to power, but to people who are.

Uranus has moved to an all but exact opposition to his Medium Coeli – the difference is less than two minutes of a degree. Here, Uranus is as powerful as it gets in this opposition, so his home life is definitely where it's at for him at this moment. He experiences things in his home and family that mean the world to him, even if he doesn't fully understand it. He may even be reluctant to accept it.

Inauguration day transits to Joe Biden's horoscope are several and quite important, making this day significant to him – but again, it's a bit difficult to say how. I guess that the vice president is sworn in, just as the president is, but still, the day is one more for the latter than the former. Therefore, the vague indications of the transits can very well mean that Joe Biden shoulders the vice presidency on that day, but if so, he will certainly not be as important in that role as his immediate predecessor has been.

Conclusions
Joe Biden's horoscope is unclear about the result of the election. There are astrological signs of importance on both the date of the election and that of the inauguration – but there would be, whatever the outcome. A presidential election is of vast importance to the lives of its main characters, whether they win or lose.

Oddly, though, the whole thing seems to make much more difference to Joe Biden's life than to Barack Obama's. I must admit that I have to wait until after these events, to find an explanation as to why.

John McCain's correct horoscope?

A birth certificate for John McCain has emerged on the internet. It seems to be authentic. It states that he was born in Colon, not Cocosolo, which is still in Panama, and at 6:25 PM. My previous reading was of a chart based on 9:00 AM, so that's quite a difference.

A listener, not a speaker
The 6:25 PM birth time makes his Ascendant Pisces, which immediately makes me suspicious. A Pisces Ascendant indicates a person presenting himself very hesitantly – shy and unsure of himself. A listener much more than a speaker, and more prone to ask questions than to give answers. That doesn't seem to fit John McCain very well, as far as I know.

The Ascendant and Medium Coeli are the fastest moving points in the horoscope, completing the whole Zodiac in just 24 hours. So, they are influenced the most when a birth time is adjusted. In the chart based on 9:00 AM, the Ascendant was in Libra, which is on the opposite side of the Zodiac.

So, the position of the Ascendant is a good way of testing the probability of a given birth time.
It is also something that is usually easy to confirm or dismiss, when comparing with the person whose chart it is.
I must say that the Pisces Ascendant gives me serious doubts about this birth time.

Uncertain values
Also, he has Saturn later in the 1st House. The planet is in retrograde, and in Pisces, which implies that when people get to know him they get the impression that he is in search of a moral standard, of principles to live by – but he is unsure of them, and far too easily influenced by others into changing values from one moment to the next.

Again, I doubt that this can be true about John McCain, who seems to have very firm values and standards to live by.

Dominant partnership
The Ascendant is in an almost exact opposition to the sun at the cusp of the 7th House in Virgo. That shows an important partnership, to which John is devoted, and working hard to keep it. It is with his partner that he feels whole, and that's where he wants to put his efforts.

He also has Neptune, Venus, and Mercury in the same House – that of partnership. It concerns marriage, of course, but also other kinds of partnerships.

So far, it's the horoscope of someone who would definitely put his marriage (and other partnerships) before his own spot in the limelight. He would be more prone to shun public life, and definitely uncomfortable about playing a lead in it.

Could that really be John McCain?

Independent
In John McCain's 10th House, which concerns his social role, career and such, he has Jupiter. That's definitely an indicator of success – but the sign is Sagittarius, which is really a force moving away from positions and institutions. It's the sign of independence. Jupiter would increase that independence, so that few obligations would stick on such a person. The success he has in life will make him less and less dependent.
That's hardly the presidency.

Jupiter's trine aspect to Mars in Leo and the 6th House shows that it is by conscious work he accomplishes this freedom and independence, and it is indeed his intention. His Medium Coeli, with the same aspect to Mars, stresses this.

Praise
Another House that should be observed regarding public office and such is the 11th, which deals with society at a larger scale – where you have no chance of knowing everybody you deal with. Several horoscopes of presidents have strong planets and other indicators in the 11th House. McCain only has the moon there, by the end of it.

That indicates public success in his late years, but the moon gives popularity more than power, it offers rewards more than responsibilities. And it's in Aquarius, the sign of contemplation and understanding.
The moon might give him praise, but not necessarily the presidency.

The moon has a trine aspect to Mercury in McCain's 7th House and Libra. An orderly partnership, more like allies than lovers, stimulates and increases his public success. It could be some kind of large scale charity work or ideological campaigning paying off – but again, not leading to a dominant and prominent role for himself.

Election day
If we look at the day of election, November 4, this horoscope gives much less indication of him winning than the 9:00 AM chart did. Uranus passes over Saturn in his chart, but at this date it's a retrograde motion, which is when something seems not to happen, as if cancelled.

It's in the 1st House, which could signal a boost for his image and role in society, but his Saturn is retrograde, and it's in Pisces, the sign of hesitation and sacrifice.
I could not call it a transit that suggests he wins the election.

Transit Saturn is passing through his cluster of planets in the 7th House, but that indicates serious and important events in his partnership – not a presidency in the making. It is a hint, though, that his obligations made him choose a running mate that was not his personal choice.

Jupiter is in his 11th House, which shows success in his public life, but it is far away from the only planet there, the moon at the end of the House. So, it just shows that he is the talk of the town because of his running for president, but not really cause to conclude that he wins the race.

Actually I see nothing in the transits that suggests his winning the election. Funny what a few hours can do. The former chart, based on the birth time 9:00 AM, was full of strong indicators of winning. But now, just about nothing.

Inauguration Day
A look at Inauguration Day, January 20, shows more positive indicators. At that time, Jupiter has reached his moon in the 11th House – also, the sun and Mercury are at the same spot. That's a strong indicator of public success on that very day.

So, even if he does not become president, the day of inauguration is still one of praise and success in public life for John McCain.

Transit Saturn in his 7th House is in retrograde, which might mean that he is distancing himself from his running mate Sarah Palin – whatever the result of the election.

Transit Uranus is very near his native Saturn in the 1st House, and so is Venus. That shows a successful time for his personality as others perceive it. Whoever is sworn in, McCain has a field day, and people look at him as if it's all really about him.

So, the transits at the Inauguration make it possible that it is actually John McCain who is sworn in as president – or if not, that he is still praised and his position elevated in connection to that ceremony and its consequences.

Complications in the voting?
Since both Obama's and McCains horoscopes show no definite winner, the election is probably a close call. Maybe even so close that the result of it is not certain until some time after it – like with the first election of George Bush. That would explain why there is no obvious winner on November 4 in the horoscopes.

I have to say that if this horoscope for John McCain with the birth time 6:25 PM is correct (which I somewhat doubt), then the result of the election is uncertain.

At length, Obama seems to be the loser, since he has lots of trouble ahead in 2009, whereas McCain seems to be off to a good start of 2009. But that could be explained in so many other ways than the losing or winning of the presidential election.

If I have to bet on one of them winning the election, it would be on John McCain. But I would not bet that much.

The US credit crisis

October 1, the Senate approved the 700 billion dollar bailout plan, and the Congress is likely to do the same. That may do the trick for now, but the basis of the credit crisis is a fundamental change in the USA, which will go on for decades.

I checked the transits to the USA horoscope, and there are two major things at work here: Jupiter is going through the 4th House in Capricorn, and in doing so the planet forms an opposition to the many planets in the 10th House. Also, Pluto is entering the 4th House, and it will remain there all the way until the autumn of 2025 – that’s 17 years.

Spending on homes
Jupiter shows that there is a vast overspending on American homes and family structures, which is what the 4th House is all about. Capricorn enhances the real estate side of family life. Since the last days of September, this forms an opposition to the sun in the US 10th House, showing the burden it causes on the government, but also the action initiated by its leadership.

In mid-December, transit Jupiter will form an opposition with the US Mercury in the 10th House, indicating debate and agreements that decide the issue. Either the present 700 billion will not get into work until that date, or there will be additional solutions introduced.

But this is not a lasting thing. Jupiter moves through a House in about a year, and now it is midway through it. The planet entered the House around New Year 2008, and will leave it in the beginning of January 2009. After that, the real estate side of the credit crisis should be over, essentially.

The US economy will return to some balance. Probably, the inauguration of the next President will be done in an air of optimistic trust that the economy is back on its feet.

Homes are changing
Pluto’s transit through the 4th House is another thing completely. If it did not take place in the same House as Jupiter mentioned above, the economic crisis would not have been this severe.

Pluto causes great and dramatic change – in this case it has to do with homes and family life. Americans are about to change drastically their way of living, especially as to how they organize their families and build their homes.

The world is in a turmoil, and it seems that the US population struggles against this uncertainty by finding new ways of forming the homes that are their castles. They will find that they have greater values in their homes than what the crisis at the moment implies, and they will use those resources to create a change for themselves.

Pluto transformations are difficult to predict in detail, but after this change the American homes will be more splendid than before. Maybe present buildings need to be torn down in order for new and prouder ones to be erected.

But they will be different, as will the way Americans in the future organize their families and homes altogether. These changes, whatever their nature, are disliked by the government, which tries to halt the process – unsuccessfully. It is time for a change.

The first Pluto return
The process will go on for some 17 years, and at the end of the period Americans will feel like they have founded sort of a new USA. This becomes very clear in December 2022, when transit Pluto meets with Pluto of the US chart, enforced by Venus and Mercury passing the same chart position.

It is the first time in the history of the USA that Pluto makes a return, passing over its position at the birth of the nation in 1776. Pluto takes almost 250 years to pass through the whole Zodiac. This will make the USA rejuvenate, almost like forming a new nation. It starts with the population and their home life, but of course it will be noticed all through the USA, in many different ways.

During the process, the government is constantly fighting this change, trying to reverse or halt it. This leads to several conflicts between the Americans and their rulers, particularly heated when transit Pluto passes an opposition to one of the planets in the US 10th House.

The first such accentuated conflict between the people and its leaders is when Pluto opposes MC in January 2009 (this dating is uncertain, since MC moves fast and the US birth time is approximated). The government figures will declare that they are opposed to the direction their citizens are moving.

This will be repeated until the beginning of 2021, when transit Pluto opposes Mercury in the 10th House. Then the government finally commences to negotiate with its citizens and starts to adapt to circumstances. That will probably accelerate the social change, so that it becomes quite complete by the Pluto-Pluto conjunction in 2022.

So, the present credit crisis is just the tip of the iceberg.

Sarah Palin horoscope

Sarah Palin appeared out of nowhere, like a comet, when John McCain announced her as his running mate. Who is she, and will she be the next US Vice President?

No birth time
Unfortunately, at this point I have not found her precise birth time. The date and place are established: February 11, 1964, in Sandpoint, Idaho. But the time of day is unknown. One birth time figures frequently on the Internet – 4:40 PM. But the source is unknown and unconfirmed.

I doubt it very much. It makes Sarah Palin a Leo Ascendant, which seems so obvious for this charismatic person that it may be intended by fixing this birth time. Also, it puts her most important concentration of planets in the 7th House, that of partnership. She became famous as a running mate to John McCain, which is a partnership indeed, so this also implies that the birth time is chosen to get this specific chart.

But it also puts her Ascendant in opposition to that cluster of planets in the 7th House, which would astrologically imply that she offers her own career for the partnership – but that is hardly the case here. This partnership certainly means an impressive boom to her career.

So, I very much doubt this birth time.

Sadly, there is not yet another that can be trusted more. Therefore I base my interpretation below on the time 12 PM, midday, to minimize the possible faults.

In such a chart, though, there is no meaning to include the Houses, the Ascendant, and the MC, which all move around the whole Zodiac in just 24 hours. The moon moves about 13° a day, so it should be read with caution – but the other planets don’t move much in the maximal twelve hours that this chart can be at fault.

Simple-minded
The most remarkable thing with Sarah Palin’s chart is its number of aspects (certain angles between planets that are astrologically significant): she has only six, and only two kinds of them. There are two sextiles and four conjunctions. Of course, the number of aspects is likely to increase when the Ascendant and the MC are added, but still this is extraordinary.

It shows a limited complexity of motivations inside of her being. One could call it a simple-mindedness. I have found a low number of aspects in several US President horoscopes. I guess that the job, as well as the career toward it, demands some kind of simple-mindedness. Sarah Palin has definitely got it.

Fanatic
She has most of her planets in the element air, implying that she is a thinker more than a doer. In water, the element of emotions, she only has one planet. She trusts her reason much more than her senses. As for the qualities, she has six of the ten planets in Zodiac signs of the fixed quality, which means that she is rather conservative, reluctant toward any change.

Her sun sign is Aquarius, the sign of analytical thinking and reason. The sun is at the 22nd degree of that sign, so her thoughts are not as deep as they are multiple. She tends to convince herself that she knows all that needs to be known about a subject already after introducing herself to it.

The sun belongs to the heaviest cluster of conjunct planets in her chart. Mars and Saturn are next to it. This forms an immensely important and powerful point in her horoscope. Since it is in Aquarius, it strongly indicates fanaticism, the firm conviction of being right about everything, and the power to keep that conviction against almost any opposition.

She will be tireless in her struggle to make everybody else yield to her viewpoint and conviction, and she is almost unable to see it from any other perspective than her own.

Convincing
She has another conjunction in Aquarius: that of the moon and Mercury in the beginning of the sign. This also implies a single-mindedness, a firm belief in her own opinion on any matter, as if she were born with all the answers. And she can be very convincing when presenting her views, almost hypnotically so. When she speaks, she sounds as if she is absolutely right, and people are so seduced by her words that they forget to examine them with a critical mind.

This aspect is linked with a sextile to Venus in Aries, which shows that she is a charismatic leader – helped tremendously in this function by her ability to convince.

Jupiter in Aries makes it obvious that she has significant success as a leader.

Out of touch
The remaining conjunction is also big, but it is shared by almost a whole generation: Uranus and Pluto in Virgo. In Sarah Palin’s horoscope, they are both retrograde and therefore weakened. They still show a deep and powerful urge to change material circumstances radically, which is true for everyone with this aspect.

Much more cannot be said about it, without knowing what House it’s in. The conjunction is not connected to any other planets in Sarah Palin’s chart, so there is no more clue to be found that way. It only suggests that this aspect doesn’t play that big a part in her life. In this way, she is significantly out of touch with her generation.

Hidden urges
An isolated ingredient in Sarah Palin’s chart is Neptune in Scorpio. This planet position is also something she shares with a whole generation. It shows that the fantasy and imagination of her generation is very occupied with metaphysics, the dark unknown, and deep hidden urges. She shares this kind of fantasy and dreams, but she is very likely to keep them to herself – as do most people with this planetary position.

It is still there, and distorts her views on reality. She is very alienated to it, since it is not linked to any of the other planets. She will probably struggle to deny its existence at all, for example by insisting on very bland and intolerant values. She fights what she regards as perversions, because she fights them within herself. That also distances herself from her generation.

The election on November 4
Now for Sarah Palin’s transits on November 4, the election day. Most important is Neptune, which is at the spot of her powerful conjunction of the sun, Mars, and Saturn, in Aquarius. This indicates dreams coming true, and it’s a once in a lifetime kind of aspect.

It’s a slow one. Neptune started to interact with the conjunction in the spring of 2007 – depending on the exact birth time, since this was the time it first passed over the sun’s position. I would say that Neptune’s entry to the conjunction marked when she was elected Governor of Alaska, which was in November 2006. So, the planet is essential in her political career.

On the election day, Neptune is again at about the same spot as it was when she became Governor (because of retrograde movements). That is indeed a strong indication that the election will boost her career and give her a political position of distinction, such as the Vice Presidency.

Neptune will keep moving over the conjunction until January 2010. Then it moves away from it. That hardly means she will lose her position at that time, but she might cease to play an important part – and it suggests that she has no chance of becoming President, at least not in the 2012 election.

If she has the chance of being President during McCain’s four years is another matter completely. Since both Saturn and Mars are involved in the conjunction, and they are two sinister planets indeed, there is a chance that grim events may work to her favor.

There is no transit as powerful on November 4th as that of Neptune. Still, that’s definitely enough to suggest that also this dream of hers will be fulfilled. But I don’t think that she will become President during this period, since she is on decline from 2010 – and because of what Uranus is doing in 2011 and 2012, which I discuss below.

Jupiter moves into square with her native Jupiter, indicating that her career does not benefit as much from the election as she would have imagined. Becoming Vice President is no guarantee of ultimate personal success. Since the transit Jupiter is in Capricorn, she will probably find that she cannot act as freely as she had anticipated. She is just part of a greater whole, which ties her arms.

Mars moves into a square with the sun, again indicating unexpected complications. Enemies mobilize against her, and they are very much heard on the very election day.

She can’t be stopped – right now
Judging from her chart, I would be very surprised if Sarah Palin doesn’t become Vice President in this election. She just can’t be stopped while she is in the phase of her life indicated by Neptune passing over her strong three-planet conjunction in Aquarius.

She will have her moment of glory, no doubt, but it is not likely ever to surpass what she experiences at this election. From 2010 she has to get used to a more modest life. There is some delightful success awaiting her in the spring of 2011, when Uranus passes over her Venus in Aries, but that’s neither as elevated nor as lasting as what she experiences now. Already at New Year of 2012 it fades away.

This Uranus transit might be a sign of her running for President in the next election – but if so, she will lose it.

John McCain horoscope

John McCain was born on August 29, 1936, in Cocosolo, Panama. Astrologers on the internet seem to have some trust in the birth time being around 9:00 AM, so I base my chart and interpretation on that. But I try to avoid too much use of the elements of the horoscope that change significantly in a few hours - such as the Ascendant, MC, the Houses, and the position of the moon.

Next president
John McCain has an unusually complex horoscope, especially compared to those of former US presidents, who tend to have rather simple and concentrated constellations in their horoscopes.

Still, he seems to be the one to win the coming election. Neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton have as much astrological support for victory as John McCain.

The trouble of power
He has a concentration of planets in the signs Cancer to Libra, where eight of twelve are situated, although that area is just one third of the Zodiac. Three of them are in Virgo, which is also his sun sign.

Virgo is the worker, the critical mind, more prone to detail than to the whole. The sun in the beginning of the sign shows that John McCain is a man who is quick to roll up his sleeves and get to work, and that is also a central part of his ideology. He is sure that he is competent, and that most others are not.

Neptune in the middle of Virgo tells us that he dreams of what grand things that can be accomplished with perseverance and hard work. He might be underestimating the difficulties, although he has a sharp critical mind. On the other hand, his Venus in the same sign gives him a creative capacity for complicated tasks.

His 10th House is powerful, with Pluto at the end of Cancer and Mars in the middle of Leo. He easily gains power and tremendous respect, and he knows how to make use of it. He is quick to take charge, and not a bit afraid to make decisions.

There is a frustration in his Pluto position at the end of Cancer, but he shares it with a whole generation. It indicates that he wants to have rules that keep control of people’s emotions, as if to eliminate the irrational in man. It cannot be done.

Saturn retrograde in Pisces shows that he has a deeply frustrated attitude toward power and responsibility, insisting on their importance but uncertain about what to do with them. This is in opposition to his problem-solving Venus, meaning that he can often be his own major obstacle. He seems to long for rules at the same time as he fails to trust them.

His second opposition is between his Pluto and his moon in Capricorn. The latter shows that he has some control of his emotions, a self-discipline that is straining on him but mostly holds, nonetheless. His will to keep a lid on himself makes him almost refuse to accept that emotional issues have importance in events of the world. He does not like it, and is practically unable to relate to it, although he often has to, because of events that he is involved in.

John McCain's horoscope has a lot of aspects. Mars has a significant role, linked with a square to Uranus in Taurus, and with a trine to Jupiter in Sagittarius. These aspects show that his leadership competence is supported by a sharp understanding of how things work in the material world, and the good luck he has with changes in his life - moving him upward, as if the sky is the limit.

Also the sun is in aspect with his Uranus, underlining his materialistic world view. Mercury in Libra shows that he can argue well, and reason with anyone about anything, but his mind is the most comfortable with superficial perspectives. He might be a problem solver, but no philosopher. That makes him ignorant of the complexity of mankind, although he is such a complex man himself.

Oddly, his MC in the middle of Cancer shows that he still regards himself as an emotional person, with strong feelings of sympathy and antipathy. The sextile to Neptune shows that he regards these emotions as his true motivations for his actions and his strife.

His MC also has a square aspect to the Ascendant in Libra and a trine to Saturn in Pisces. It makes him feel like a man who will bring back justice and ethical principles to a somewhat lost and confused world. He wants to find and to preach what is really right and wrong, although he is not that sure of it.

There is confusion inside of him, but he manages to act decisively and keep a straight face, anyway.

The presidential election
The election is on November 4, 2008. John McCain has several astrological indicators to his success at it. At that date, Saturn has just passed over his Neptune, carrying power and possibility to his dream of working hard to accomplish grand things.

Jupiter is at an opposition to his MC, indicating a fortunate event that he feels will be disadvantageous to him personally - and surely, that is the price of being the President. Your personal life will suffer. Jupiter is also in square with the Ascendant, which means that his official role, the way he presents himself to others, is strained but still successful. He manages well to keep a straight face in the hour of need.

On the election day, Uranus in retrograde has recently passed over his Saturn (it is exact on September 26, 2008), which is certainly involved in his ambitions, bringing many insights to it. Late September, when that aspect is exact, is when he becomes convinced that he will win the election. Uranus will return to pass Saturn again in the beginning of February 2009, which would be right after the new President enters office. He will be mentally ready for his job, and he will have a grand plan for it.

Next to the Uranus conjunction, the most important aspect for John McCain in this period is the Saturn to Saturn opposition, which is exact on November 18, a couple of weeks after the election. It shows that he has to overcome his frustrations and uncertainties about the use of power, and what principles to rely on. He will need to express certainty and unquestionable authority. And he will be able to do that, because he is at that time reminded of his deep and complex relation to both power and its principles.

Because Saturn soon after that goes into retrograde, it will form another opposition with John McCain’s Saturn on February 13, 2009, and then a third transit on August 8, 2009. During this period of the three transits Saturn to Saturn, John McCain will mature heavily into his responsibility, and shoulder it readily. In the process, he probably allows himself to become rather pragmatic about the ethics of power.

At the date of the presidential inauguration, January 20, 2009, Saturn is over John McCain’s Venus in Virgo, kicking off some tremendous and important work indeed. Pluto is approaching a square with his Mercury, showing that he will need to change his way of speaking, sharpen his tongue, and that his speaking is instrumental in making big changes. Mars is in square with his Ascendant, making it important for him to behave in a controlled manner and showing determination.

The transits do in many ways indicate that he wins the presidential election of 2008, and succeeds George W. Bush as President of the USA. The job will take its toll on him, but so has his life leading up to it.

Barack Obama horoscope

For odd political reasons, Barack Obama's birth certificate has been released. It shows that his time of birth was 7:24 PM on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu. Obviously, the time of birth is reported with a precision to the minute, and I see no reason to distrust it.

My former chart interpretation was based on 12:00 PM, which is the regular procedure when the exact time of birth is unknown. I tried to take this into consideration when doing my reading, but now that I have the right time I might as well do it anew.

Obama's chart at a glance
Actually, this is not a horoscope of a world leader. His MC is alone in the 10th House, and there is no planet at all in the 11th. His strongest position, the cluster of planets in Leo, are in the 6th and 7th House, dealing with his work and his partner relations. The important giants Jupiter and Saturn are in his 12th House, that of personal sacrifice.

Simply put: I would not expect this to be the horoscope of a President, actually not of a leader of any significance. Obama's chart is much more focused on his personal life.

There's just one planet in the vicinity of his horoscope's zenith: Neptune in Scorpio and the 9th House. That indicates dreams and fantasies about fantastic changes in his life – but most of them remain dreams.

His Ascendant is in the middle of Aquarius, where the sign is its most typical. That shows honesty and a straightforward mentality. He is serious, to the point of becoming gloomy, and he is not one to simplify his thoughts in order to get across. So, he is not understood by all.

His sun is in the middle of Leo – again where the sign is the most typical – and the 6th House. This shows pride and great trust in his own leadership abilities. He expresses this at work, which makes him a competent middle level manager, but hardly top management. People follow his orders, but he might still have a tendency to follow them in order to make sure that they do so.

His moon is in the beginning of Gemini and the 4th House, so his emotions are very much reserved for his family. In that environment he is not hesitant to express his feelings and talk about them, almost therapeutically.

His MC at the end of Scorpio and in the 10th House shows that he regards himself as a leader, but an uncertain one, unable to trust the solidity of his position – or the people under his command. He would actually prefer to move on toward independence, even at the cost of his leadership.

Looking at his horoscope, I am surprised that he runs for President at all, and that he has been so successful this far.

Election Day
Looking at the transits to his horoscope on the day of the Presidential election, November 4, I find no aspect that would suggest his victory. Actually, there is no planetary position in his birth chart that a transit would give that likelihood. There's just nothing there to support it.

Neptune has passed his Ascendant – a year or so ago, suggesting that a dream role for him is no longer realistic. Saturn is approaching his Mars in Virgo and the 8th House, indicating tougher times ahead. The sun forms a square to his native sun, showing changes that are to his disadvantage, especially in his job situation – but nothing serious.

The transits of the election day signal nothing alarming – either positive or negative. Like I said when reading the 12:00 PM horoscope, this indicates that there is no surprise at all when he doesn't win the election. It should be clear long before that date.

The Inauguration
A quick look at the transits for the Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009, show a cluster of the sun, Mercury, and Jupiter, around Jupiter in the 12th House in Obama's birth chart. The 12th House shows personal sacrifices, so it is clear that the transiting planets bring no good news. Mars is on the way there, too, but will take a little longer.

Pluto forms an opposition to his native Venus. It reveals that drastic changes in his official life are great disappointments to him. Saturn retrograde is on his Mars, suggesting that the trouble it will bring has been postponed some. It will return, though.

There is indeed no positive indication for Obama on the date of the Inauguration. The Presidency is long gone for him at that time, and other things occupy his life.

McCain wins
So, knowing the exact time of Barack Obama's birth changes nothing in my forecast for the election. He is highly unlikely to win it, whereas McCain has lots of astrological indications of victory.

Bad year for Obama
I checked Barack Obama's horoscope again, in search for an explanation to why he has no chance at the Presidential election. I didn't find that, really, except for again being struck by how devoid his horoscope is of anything as remarkable as becoming US President.

Instead, I found what a very unfortunate year 2009 will be for him. It is full of severe oppositions that several outer planets form with planets in his chart.

Transit Pluto in Capricorn and the 11th House opposes his native Venus in Cancer and the 5th House, indicating dramatic events in his public life that make obstacles for delights he has in his private life. If it were not such a negative aspect, it could have marked some kind of public office, but in this case it seems more to hint at a loss of one.

Both Neptune and Jupiter in Aquarius and the 1st House oppose Uranus in Leo and the 7th House. Both his dreams and chances of making an impression on people cause problems for his ability to mature and learn in his partnerships. He might be too eager to succeed, so that he loses the respect of his wife as well as other close partners.

Uranus in Pisces and the 2nd House opposes Mars in Virgo and the 8th House. Revelations and conclusions about his resources (usually but not only money) hinders him from having the control of his fortune that he is usually able. Mars is also passed over by Saturn in a conjunction, again showing serious complications – opportunities if treated right, but still so difficult that they can easily turn sour.

Such aspects to a planet in the 8th House also often indicate unfortunate events with relatives.

So, 2009 will be a very difficult year for Barack Obama. Since the slow moving outer planets cause long-time and lasting effects, these may commence already this year. Problems that will erupt in 2009 may already during this fall start to approach. That could be the reason for Obama losing the election.
